Koshkod Trees/Ohidago/Ohida Higosh (koʃ-kod)

If one ever looks at the cloth found on Nomad cloth and Toro native clothing, you might notice a wood-clothy texture, that is because it is made of wood. The Koshkod trees are a subspecies of the Mulberry tree and are found within the snowy Island of Toro. The wood is able to be washed and transformed into the thread to make the clothing and banners of the The Archipelago of Seasons prefectures. The clothing is dyed and patterned to match the prefectures' patterns.

Basic Information

Anatomy

A Large evergreen tree with dark oak, similar in appearance to a Paper Mulberry tree.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Tree produces saplings grown as a sort of nut upon the tree branches. These nuts are cracked open by the bird's using their beak, and the insides contain the seed, which is eaten and defecated into the ground of Toro, in which its heat-absorbing adaptations allows it to grow within the snow

Growth Rate & Stages

Starts out as a sapling, but over 30 years grows into a tree.

Ecology and Habitats

Live within cold environments where there is little heat, but the heat it absorbs is optimal for survival.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Require water and sunlight like other plants but can live without it for many years due to the harsh winters of Toro, it absorbs some of the water from the snow, though that won’t sustain as well.

Additional Information

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The tree's lightweight and waterproof wood is used for the robes the natives of Toro wear and Nomad/Naozhso Cloaks. The wood is washed, turned into threads, and dyed and patterned to match the tribes. The wood is also used in banners of the Archipelago prefectures. To gain this, the tree's bark is harvested by scraping the wood with an axe oiled with Kamaitachi medicine to not destroy the bark when gathering.
