Minotaurs
The mighty minotaur has been the subject of countless fairy tales and folk legends across Archaios' history. In these stories, they are often depicted as savage beasts, with barely enough human-level intellect to facilitate tracking and hunting their pray through their labyrinthian lairs.
Indeed, these stories have some basing in reality. As with other beastfolk like Tabaxi and Lizardfolk, many scholars believe minotaurs are the result of arcane experimentation, though there is some argument to be had that minotaurs are more like beings such as centaurs and satyrs, which draw their ancestry to the Feywild. Regardless of their origin, it used to be that minotaur were indeed closer to beasts than true sapient beings. That changed some time after the events of The Extinction War.
After the Great Collision, fully sapient minotaurs began to appear alongside the likes of the rabbit-like harengon and the enigmatic changelings. Because minotaurs remain a rare occurance, the old prejudices other mortal species hold still persist, except in areas where minotaurs are more common. In those places, they have been readily accepted into the already diverse array of sapient peoples that inhabit Archaios.
Sub-species
While the stereotypical minotaur possesses the body of a human and the head of a bull, there are several varieties of minotaurs that can be found across Archaios. These include minotaurs with features that more closely resemble rams, stags, elk, bison, and even moose.
