The Destruction of Illaier

The fall of Illaier during the conflict between the followers of Corellon and Lolth marked the end of the dominance of elvish civilization on Archaeon, and the end of the royal line with the death of Queen Celese Orellon marked a turning point in elven civilization, as they were left without a leader chosen by Corellon.

"When Illaeir fell to the demons and drow, the best of our people fell with her; Queen Celese Orellon, the last of her line, died when the Palace of Glass was destroyed, leaving the survivors without any clear leader... Lady Elaneril Annuwen, Guard-Captain of the Palace and Commander of the Star Sentinels, and Champion of Sehanine led the fighting withdrawal from the city, and engaged the balor Ndudu with her long-time ally, the halfiing Rogus Stabrum, the dwarven warrior Migli Beardbreaker, and the druid Brynjolf Balgruuf, in order to give the people time to flee the destruction. Many lives were saved through their heroism, but as Annuwen's sword pierced the heart of Ndudu, the balor erupted in a conflagration that consumed all nearby.
