Except him all of his friends lost their souls in a fatal defeat and after his mentor took the blame for his failings and also the punishment for playing the Devil's Gambit, Lucian left his home on a journey to free the souls of his friends and even his first mentor by defeating and destroying the Devil's Gambit once and for all. His limbs are slender too and his whole body looks very aerodynamic, as if the wind shaped it perfectly to blow around him without any resistance. As a result of his slender form and the fact that he didn't had to train his body at any given point in his life, Lucian's physical strength is very low and he is unable to most act of athletics and strength, which is the reason he often uses magic to solve most situations aquiring acts of brute force and physicality.

As a Genasi, Lucian not look like any typical person. His skin color is lightblue, which give his whole body the look of the skyline itself. He has long silverwhite hair, which glancing in the light a bit. They are reaching down his back, but are constantly in motion. To others it looks as if always a breeze of wind waves through his hair, but this wind only seems to surround him, because others can't be affected by it.

The shape of his ears is another part of his ancestry from the Djinn, because they often have pointy ears too.
Identifying Characteristics
Being a Genasi and therefore a member of a very rare type of species, which only includes a bunch of persons in a city or even region, Lucian easily can be identified even inside the biggest crowd. Since he also is very tall and wearing noble clothes, it's easy to find him, when someone knows, after which aspects he has to look for.
Physical quirks
Lucian is known for moving his fingers most of the time, nearly never holding them calm. When he describes or explain something or even at arguments or discussions, he uses his fingers to underline his words with some gestures, often in a dramatical way. He also often play around with some of his cards, flipping them between his fingers, when he's nervous or in the process of thinking. The movement of his fingers is always nimble and filigree, like a breeze of wind.
Special abilities
Natural Abilites
- The Heritage of the Djinn: As he is born a Genasi, Lucian inherit some of the special traits of his elemental ancestry. As an air genasi he descends from the Djinn and for that inherits traits connected to the Element of Air. He can see much better in darkness then a mere human and also possesses the ability to hold his breath indefinitely, als long as he is not incapacitated, which means, he not needs to breath if he not want to. His body also inherits some natural resistance against the element of lightning, enabling him to even resist the hit of a lightning charge. Through his heritage he's also able to wield some elemental magic, connected to the air itself without any further training. He is able to load electric bolts into his cards and unleash them at his enemies. He's also able to slow down the fall of himself and others around him by manipulating the movement of the wind and can levitate, when he lifts up his body from the ground. He's also able to whisper and his silent spoken words got brought through the wind to the ear of someone nearby, enabling him to speak to others, without anyone else knowing or noticing.
- Arcane Legacy: Lucian descends from a family which brought forth great Mages and Wizards since generations. He was born with the natural affinity and a great potential to the use of arcane magic. His potential might be even stronger then that of others in his family because of his heritage from the Djinn, but inside House Dùmas this is not seen as an advantage but a shame, since it shows some sort of inherit help to master the arcane arts.
Trained Abilities
- Card Magic: Lucian was a novice at the Vandermorn Institute, where he got trained as part of the House of Cards in the special techniques of Dorian Vandermorn, who teached to give up the strict control of magic like it's normally practiced through gestures, formulas and rituals in favor of the element of chance to empower spells indifferently and without any limitations. To channel this powers, games of chance were used and Lucian became skilled in the use of cards to this purpose. Therefore every battle and every use of magic is a game as much as a fight to him. He always plays some sort of poker while fighting, trying to pick up the best combinations to empower the more harmless spells and cantrips he normally put to use to a decree, which is potentially endless. He plays the Weave itself by chance, influencing his own hand and forming arcane energy through it. The better combinations he put to use (Full House, Royal Flush etc.) the better empowerments he generates for himself and his spells. He uses attack combinations using the iconic name of cards together with the element he unleashes (King of Flames or Queen of Frost for example), having a special card number to every element he put to use. He also can harden his cards, making them razorsharp and using it as a blade, when unleashing it against enemies, cutting things like a knife or sword would do. His cards even can build a barrier around him as some sort of shield or a whole magical armor, that protects him from damage, making the use of a normal armor or any weapon pointless to him. Beside that offensive and defensive techniques he has a lot of tricks in his sleeve through his card magic, like a card hook to pull himself to any place he wants, a hand of cards to use things and much more. He is a magical gambler and there is always another trick down his sleeve.
- Joker Spells: After the Siege of Drakkenfall Lucian came to the conclusion, that his powers are not strong enough to face the dangers, he will be confronted with in the future and therefore he would fail again, being unable to protect his friends. With the help of Lyriel Sunshadow he tried some risky experimentation with the teachings of Dorian Vandermorn. Instead of just using cantrips for his card magic, he tried to give up control of normal spells, playing them by chance too, fully aware, that their much higher potential of arcane power can destroy him or the Weave itself. He started to craft special "joker" cards, capable of storing the power of the spells to play them without the typical formulae or controlled words a Wizard normally would do. This increased his potential as a Card Mage heavily with the ability of using every arcane spell at his disposal, giving him endless possibilities. But this is a dangerous technique and not for nothing forbidden by the ancient master. If Lucian can't master this technique or fails just a single time he could destroy everything, including himself and his companions.
- School of Chronomancy: When creating the new techniques in the aftermath of the Siege of Drakkenfall Lucian was aware of the fact, that he risks to destroy everything by not using magic the traditional way. Lyriel Sunshadow offered him a solution to this problem: The School of Chronomancy. She teached Lucian the basics of time magic, a complicated field of study, which not many Wizards mastered before and with it's own dangers, since manipulating the flow of time has it's own risks. But this enables Lucian to manipulate time, fastening or slowing other persons, sending himself a few seconds into the future and even get glimpses of future events in his mind, which allows him to plan strategies for events, that are still about to happen. The possibilities of this powers are endless for a mind like Lucian's. On the other hand it allows him to see mistakes he might do and so being able to avoid them before even happening.
- The Nobleman Gambler: Lucian got trained as a gambler even before he got trained as a Mage. He is a talented player of all types of games, with the focus on card games, but he's also well trained in other games of chance like chess or dice. He loves games, watching them as the perfect manifestation of fate itself, influencing the players, who are willing to take a card or roll another dice, always hoping the best and so often have to accept another grim strike of fate, when the result of their hope get's revealed through the game. Lucian got a well trained pokerface, making it nearly impossible to read him, while he is able to read others even better, playing them more like the game itself and gaining advantage, whenever they show a sign of weakness to him. In battle he is an terryfing enemy because of that he is even harder to beat and a real challenge to everyone.
- Strategist & Tactician: One of Lucian's greatest traits is his adaptability to any given situation, if he just have the chance to gain as much information as possible. Knowing the facts he is able of planning a new strategy or tactic before he gets into action. Since he hates to improvise, he gather's as much informations as possible beforehand, writing down anything, that could be useful, investigating on situations, places, persons and potential enemies, analyze them and then deciding how to act. To that purpose he is well into knowing, where he can get informations, how to speak with people to make them share their knowledge and how to interpret not so well known facts.
- Alchemical Knowledge: Lucian has some general knowledge in the fields of alchemy, since he had some lessons at the Vandermorn Institute. He is able to craft potions like healing or mana potions, as well as a wide range of other tinktures and vials of sorts with different magical effects. He not often make use of that knowledge and just put it into place in moments, where he needs it.
- Fighter of the Arcane: As a special trained Mage, Lucian is highly skilled and specialized in the use of his magic. He can sling his spells very precisely and on point to an enemy, even around cover and above great distances up to the point he nearly can see them anymore. Being in direct proximity to an enemy is also not a problem to him, because he can manipulate the intensity of his spells that precisely, he's still just hitting his enemy and not himself, even in close combat. He's also able to weave most of his spells without any material components, gestures or verbal enchantings, just through the use of his cards. This highly specialized techniques, sometimes called "Mage Tricks" are hard to master, but enabling him to quick fighting and adapting to nearly every situation on a battlefield in a mere matter of moments.
Apparel & Accessories
Most of the time Lucian wears some sort of noble clothing, which make him outstanding to nearly everyone around him, especially as an adventurer. His clothes normally consisting of a white shirt made of silk, with a very striking collar. On top of that he often wears some sort of blue jackett, closed up with golden buttons and also decorated with some golden embroidery on it. The long blue coat, which is also part of the look is on top of that, striking through the golden embroidery too and the expansive collar, that reveals much of his shirt and jackett to others. The coat itself is also made of a very rigid material with the shoulder pieces looking very broad and heavy, giving him a more bulky look and the lower part of the coat always floating around his legs, without loosing it's distinctive shape easily. At the end of the sleeves of the coat the sleeves of the silk shirt are to see, ending in decorative ruffles, giving his slender arms even more elegance. To complete that outfit Lucian wears mostly trousers of the same blue silk like his jackett, getting hold with three belts of leather with golden embroidery. One belt, with the most impressive decorations, he wears normally, the other two left and right, more decoration then functional. His shoes are made of black leather, always polished and decorated with some silver embroidery too.
As of jewelry Lucian wears two golden rings on the middle- and ringfinger of his right hand. One of them holds the emblem of the Vandermorn Institute, the other being the signet ring of House Dùmas. At his left hand he wears no jewelry, mostly because of the fact, that this is the hand he holds his cards into, when he had drawn them and some jewelry would hinder his nimble movements. His ears are also decorated with some golden jewelry. Golden ornaments are set on top of them to trace the shape of his ears, pointing them out with a fine golden shimmer for everyone to see.
Specialized Equipment
Marley's Pokerdeck
Lucian uses the old pokerdeck of his first mentor, Marley Bolton to channel his magic, since the cards are not only inscribed with arcane runes, but also enchanted and invoked with the streams of arcane energy itself, making them much easier to manipulate and even more resistant to damage. The card deck functions as his magical focus, help to form his spells and since he uses the special technique of Dorian Vandermorn, they also help him to channel the magical energy through them, by chance, not control, with the different card combinations he draws and plays out affecting the power of his spells differently. Nonetheless of their powers and enchantment, the cards are very old and worn, showing sings of bleaching and signs of wear everywhere. It's easy to see, that this cards were used hundreds of time in play and battle equally. But Lucian would never change them to others, because they are the only remembrance he have of the man, who not only was his fatherfigure, but the first one to accept him as the one, who he is and brings him on his way. The deck shows him the way, he has to go and the goal, he has to reach.Gambit's Bane
From Aldwyn Ruberis Lucian got an unfinished rune made of some specially enchanted clay, inscribed with a mysterious and unknown symbol on it. This anchorrune was the last project of the high ranking members of the Vandermorn Institute which tried to find a way to safe the soul of someone fighting in a Devil's Gambit against the shadowplayers. The rune never got finished before the Arcane Assembly decided to end the threat of the Gambit by simply forbade it and Aldwyn hold it in secret for years afterwards. Lucian managed, with the help of Sean-Paul Gilmore, to combine the powers stored inside the rune with a specially crafted magical ring and therefore created the Gambit's Bane. This ring wields the power to store Lucian's soul, if something tries to take it away, giving him the possibility to avoid a fatal end for his soul. It also prevents his soul from moving to the afterlife in cause of dying, giving him some sort of reinsurance. The ring also shields his mind from influencing effects, making his thoughts unable to read. In combination with his pokerface this makes Lucian highly unpredictable and therefore dangerous for his enemies.Magical Nightcap
Lucian is in the possession of a magical enchanted nightcap, which send him good dreams, when he wears it while sleeping. He bought that cap after the events of the ultimate duel of the fates with the Devil's Gambit took place, because after that he became unable to sleep without having horrible nightmares, always seeing the moment of his biggest loose and the souls of his friends getting stolen by the Devils. He needs that cap to calm down at least a few hours and find some rest.Sending Stones
Together with the rest of his party, Lucian got some Sending Stones, enabling the members of the group to speak with each other. Lucian most often uses that object in his function as strategist in battle, instruct others how to act, to explain his plans and to discuss situations. He rarely uses that objects to communicate on a personal level, knowing, that all of the others can hear it and prefers a personal talk, when he wants to speak with someone of the group in private.Enchanted Card Case
As a personal reward for his help in defending Drakkenfall Lucian got a magical enchanted card case from Duke Vernan Devereaux and his daugther. This case stores his card deck perfectly, shielding it from any harm and protect it from natural and magical hazards. Since this cards are the core of Lucian's magical abilities and therefore his most precious possessions, this card case is highly valuable to him, especially since him and the other adventures get into various dangers on a regular basis.Mental characteristics
Personal history
Early Years
Lucian Aldèric Dùmas was born at 7th of Stormtide in the year 3148 AoM as the firstborn son and therefore heir to the famous House Dùmas in Orthreris in the Kingdom of Solaaran. His father, Joaquin Dùmas is a political influential archmage in the magocracy of the kingdom, holding up the family code of achievements through will and hard work, not because of innate abilites. So the birth of Lucian wasn't a proud day to Joaquin, because of him being born as an Air Genasi defiling the pure bloodstatus of the family. Since both of his family members are human's, there was just two possible explanations to this: His mother, Camille Dùmas had cheated on her husband with a creature from the elemental Plane of Air, which she heavily denied or, which is even worse, the legacy of the family is not that pure, they had believed and there existed the blood of a Djinn inherent to them, maybe since generations. All of Joaquin's research was fruitless, but it didn't change the outcome anyway, that his firstborn son is a Genasi. For the first years of his life Lucian was taught in noble behaviour, politics and all the other things a child from noble birth had to learn. But six years later, when his younger brother Arthris Dùmas was born as a human, he got disinherited by his father and his brother got declared as the sole heir of House Dùmas. From this moment on Lucian got ignored from his father and they made sure, he stayed away from formal occasions with other nobles and not get mentioned in any political affairs. Sometimes his father even denied his whole existence, telling others, it's just a rumor, that his firstborn son is not human. Lucian learned from this point on, that he is unworthy, he is nothing and will never achieve anything, which depressed him deeply. Only his mother, which didn't take the bloodstatus of the family so important, loved him and ensured, he got a proper education in secret. She also told her son more then once, that fate is unbreakable and often unfair, but always bears a chance. As it seemed to be his destiny to be a Genasi, it must be for a reason and one day he will learn about it. And this would be the moment, his whole existence would have a meaning. Lucian internalized this teachings deeply, which would later lead into him becoming a follower of the Morrigan as the goddess of fate and prophecy. An Identity of his own
When Lucian was 11 years old, his beloved mother died to a fever and so he lost the only person of meaning in his life. With his father still ignoring and not caring about him, Lucian turned his attention to his hometown of Orthreris. He started to visit the streets of the city more often now, becoming part of the crowd and enjoying, that at this place, with all his different persons and species, him being a Genasi wasn't of that interest anymore. The first time ever he felt as a part of something and not separated any longer. He also started visiting the old taverns and bars of the city, especially the darker ones. In one of that taverns he met an old human, which got called "Old Bones" by anyone. He was a mysterious old man and no one knews anything about him. He arrived in the tavern years earlier and since that moment was always there. Normally Old Bones not even spoke much to the people, when not playing with them. As a gambler, he loved games of chance of all kinds and he was very good at it. But Lucian's behaviour, his awareness, intelligence and spirit seemed to fascinate this old man. He invited Lucian to his first game of cards and not long after he would became a fatherfigure to the young Genasi. The next months Lucian returned to Old Bones more often and he learned a lot from him. He learned, that this old man, with his ragged clothes, his poorness and frail appearance was much more a friend and a mentor then his own father was. Lucian understood, that nobility and noble birth are not, what a man is, but it's only the soul, that counts. And sometimes, the Ones, which have nothing, are more friendly and much better persons, because wealth and influence not corrupted them. The Old Bones also teached Lucian, that he would have to forge his own identity, which he can be proud of and wear it like an armor. This would help him to endure all the things, others are saying about him, all the looks and the whisperings behind his back. It also would give him a goal in life, because of filling that identity with life and making it true can be the work of a lifetime. But over time, Lucian would become this perfect archetype, he had created for his own. Lucian internalized this lesson and started to learn playing the games of chance from Old Bones. After a while, when he had won his first games and earned some money, he bought some fine clothes, which fitted well to his noble heritage. He also adopted some behaviours he had learned from the nobles, using charisma, smiles and words to get, what he wants, while also train himself to get fast reflexes and quick fingers. His innate magical abilities, which started to awake in this years, helped him a lot too, especially the manipulation of wind and lightning, which was inherent to him because of his ancestry from the Djinn. In a couple of years the young Genasi had adopted the persona of a "Nobleman Gambler", which was exactly the facade, he wanted others to see.The House of Cards
In the year 3158 AoM, after a nights full of drinks and games, Old Bones suddenly died. It was far after midnight, when he left the table a moment, but not returned. Lucian started to worry about his friend and got to look for him. He found him on the ground, near his room, groaning and shivering. When Lucian tried to help him, he realized, there was nothing he could do for his mentor. The hallucinating old man grabbed the collar of Lucian's jacket, speaking his final words to him: "Be careful...of the Devil's Gambit...the cursed game...it shall not remain! If the seal is to break....everything will be in vain....Beware...". Lucian not understood the last words of his fatherfigure and the following days he sift through his belongings. So he learned, that the old man was more then a mere drunkard. It seemed, he was a powerful Wizard once, but different then all the mages, Lucian had seen in the house of his family. He found an old set of cards, heavily used but decorated with stylizations, runes and other symbols of the Arcane. While he kept the old cars as a reminder of his old friend, he also found some correspondence between the old man and another man named Aldwyn Ruberis, which seemed to be an old friend of him. In one of the last letters Bones had written, that he found a promising candidate, which needs training in the art of the arcane, but because of his age and fragile being he wouldn't be able to do it anymore. Since he had not send the letter before his death, a curious Lucian brought it to the master of crows and made sure, the letter was send away to the same destination like all the letters before. A few days later the remains of Old Bones got burned in a ceremony outside of Orthreris. Since he was well known by the populace they arranged this funeral to him, not just putting him into some nameless grave. Lucian attended to the ceremony, where the noticed a Tiefling, different to the other guests because of his noble clothes and the arcane energy surrounding him. And he shall be right. This man visited Lucian after the funeral ended, introduced himself as Aldwyn Ruberis. He came to spend his dead friend the last honor but also because of the last letter he attended from Bones. He told Lucian that he and Bones were friends since their childhood, had been grewn up together, learned the arcane arts together and became well known Mages, until the moment, Bones lost himself, made mistakes, which led him to his demise and he had fallen from grace very deeply. He offered Lucian the possibility to test him and found out, if Bones assessment was correct. Lucian agreed and after he passed the tests of games of chance, quick thinking, reflexes/agility and magical arts, Ruberis underwent him, he was allowed to join the mage and became part of the school of wizardry, where he came from. His father had no problem with sending Lucian away. He was glad to not have any trouble with his firstborn son any longer and so Lucian was free to leave his home behind and so he followed Aldwyn Ruberis to a new destiny. He got brought to the secretive and mysterious Vandermorn Institute, a small academy, with only a few professors and a bunch of students. He learned, that this Institute was small, but highly specialized in the techniques of Dorian Vandermorn. They are also accepted by the Arcane Assembly, even if their approach to magic is very special and uncommon. Lucian was soon fascinated by the techniques that was teached at the Institute and became a good and promising student. In the following years he learned a lot of cantrips, the basics of the arcane techniques, they teached at the Institute and also refined his skills in different games of chance. Still following Old Bones teachings, he remained in his persona as a nobleman gambler, which was not that uncommon at the Institute, but his heritage as a Genasi still made it special and individual. After a while he got assigned to Aldwyn Ruberis as his mentor, which still had four students at this time: the human sisters Kaeley Amandis and Valyna Amandis, where he soon started flirting with the older sister Kaeley a bit, the Gnome Leran Swiftbelt, always nervous, but quick in his mind and the Half-Elf Silanis Glandoran, which became Lucian's best friend because of the fact, that he als was a halfblood and understoo the troubles, the Genasi had gone through his whole life. At an unknown point in his education at the Vandermorn Institute, Lucian joined the "House of Cards", one of the different specialized houses at the academy. The Fate of Marley Bolton
In the years of his studies at the Institute, Lucian finally got the family he always wanted. Feeling safe and secure for the first time in his life, he started to think about mysteries of his past, which are still unsolved more and more. There was the question of the blood of the Djinn in his venes and what his family tried to hide from their past. But another question was more urgent to him: Who was Old Bolton? Who was this man and what fate had overtaken him in his life? And what is the Devil's Gambit he had spoken about with his dying breath? The first person to ask was Aldwyn Ruberis, but he not delivered any answers. He just heard from him, that the Devil's Gambit is a cursed game, the scourge of everyone, that loves games. It's strictly forbidden by the magical society and to play it can have dire consequences. He even forbade his students to research more about it and summon them to let it be. Lucian and the four other students started to research on their own afterwards. It needed a long time and many illegal visits in the forbidden parts of the bibliothecary of the Institute, but finally they got their answers. Old Bolton, really named Marley Bolton was one of the most promising students of his era at the Vandermorn Institute, becoming a great agent outside after his promotion as a Mage. He finished many jobs to the Institute until the Arcane Assembly ordered the Vandermorn Institute and especially him to hunt down the creator of the cursed Devil's Gambit, ending the scourge of this game once and for all. Lucian didn't found out a lot about the game, only that it existed since hundreds of years and everyone, who plays it and looses, has to give up his soul, paying the ultimate price. The identity of the mysterious creator of the game or even his reasons for it are fully unknown to the Mages. There were just hints about an ancient seal, that this being might to break with all the soul energy he harvests with the game. They also learned, that Marley Bolton hunted down the Shadow Gamblers, the minions of the creator, which played the Devil's Gambit in his name, harvesting souls. But after a while, where he had to play the game itself to defeat the minions of his enemy, he became more and more unstable, obsessed with the idea of winning the game for good and ending the threat of the Gambit once and for all. He even ignored the warnings of all his friends, even that of Aldwyn Ruberis. In his horror Lucian found out, that Marley Bolton lost the final game against the creator of the Gambit, which meant, his soul got claimed by this Devil. Since Marley was his nemesis, in a cruelsome display of superiority he allowed him to life out the rest of his life, but in the moment of his death, his soul would get claimed as the prize of the Devil. After the best player of the Vandermorn Institute had lost the game, the Arcane Assembly gave up any further attempts to finish the game and they just forbade to play it in every part of the continent of Vasloria. Lucian confronted Aldwyn Ruberis with this story, which confirmed it as truth. After he lost himself to the Devil's Gambit, Marley Bolton got stripped from his magic, his titles and rank and went into exile, becoming the drunkard and gambler, the Genasi had met in the taverns of Orthreris. It's a rumor, that Marley Bolton nearly had won the Devil's Gambit against the creator himself and therefore he got punished, living his life in exile, until his death, where his soul got claimed. Lucian realized at this moment, that his fatherfigure and the first person, which ever accepted him, giving him the second chance, he now live out, never find any peace, being trapped by this Devil and used to some darker means. Despite all warnings, Lucian made the fatal decision, he would end the quest of his first mentor, breaking the Gambit and free his soul to bring him eternal peace.A fatal Loose
Together with his friends, which he convinced to follow him in his quest, Lucian started to hunt down Shadow Gamblers, defeating some of them and states every time, that he seeks revenge for Marley Bolton. The plan came into fruition, when the creator of the Gambit itself, heard the name of his fallen Nemesis and confronted the five students together with his best player, the Cursed Aces. He offered them a hellish Devil's Gambit, in the depths of the Nine Hells itself, all or nothing. The five students accepted and a duel ensued, which was that horrible, Lucian would loose his memories about this whole fight later on, but still would have nightmares in the years to come. The students were good players but stand no chance. One by one they fall, loosing the horrible gambit and their souls to the Cursed Aces and their master. In the end, only Lucian remained, who also loose without any chance. Realizing, that his arrogance and blinded heroic behaviour had sealed the fate of his best friends, he was ready to accept his fate too. But the creator of the game not took his soul, but spared him. He was amused to see the last student of Marley Bolton that broken, but his heritage as a Genasi was different and special and he saw the potential in Lucian to become even "stronger" and more "powerful". All this power he would amass could be of use to the plans of the Devil. To make sure, Lucian would still try to get stronger, he offered one of the souls of his friends to ever one of the Cursed Aces. Then he gave Lucian the task to defeat all of them in Devil's Gambit, freeing the souls of his friends one by one and becoming stronger in the process. If he would refuse to do so, he would never see them again and they would be cursed and damned in all eternity, because of his failure. The second Chance
Lucian returned to the material plane, where he got found by Aldwyn Ruberis, who helped him to bring back the bodies of his friends to the Vandermorn Institute. There the Mages easily found out, the students had lost in a Devil's Gambit and wanted to know the identity of the one, who encouraged them into it. Ruberis took the fault to himself, lying to the Arcane Assembly, that he lied to his students and manipulated them into playing the Gambit, to get revenge for his fallen friend Marley Bolton. While he got imprisoned and would have to await some punishment, he offered Lucian the task, to free the souls of his friends by any means. Bring them back and cleanse himself from the shame and guilt, he had brought upon himself. To that end he gave Lucian a mysterious rune, which the Mages of the Institute started to create when they still tried to fight the Gambit and which he had kept and in secret tried to finish for years, but failed. The original plan was to create a rune where the own soul could get bound into, to ensure, that a mage, if he loose a Gambit, not loose his sould to strengthen the enemy. Lucian shall find a way to finish the rune, using it as a tool to fight against the Cursed Aces and the creator of the game itself and finish the task, Marley Bolton was not able to. With the promise of reestablish the name of Aldwyn Ruberis too, when the time has come, Lucian left and went on his own journey...The forging of a special friendship
Lucian started to travel southeast, visiting any towns on his path to find a first hint about the Cursed Aces, but had no luck with it. He finally reached the borders of the Kingdom of Eldrithorn, leaving his homeland of Solaaran behind. While staying in the taverns he mostly financed his stays with playing games and winning some money, but one day he played with a member of the local militia, which accused Lucian of cheating. His tries to calm down the situation but failed, especially when the watching crowd started laughing about the man, which got angry and attacked the gambler in front of him. At this moment Lucian got some unexpected help by a young Halfling Druid named Hannibal Teeblatt, which stopped the slash with the sword using his own totemic focus, which got destroyed in the process. A brawl in the tavern ensued, giving the Halfling and the Genasi the possibility to escape, before they got catched by the guards. When confronting Hannibal about the reason for his help later, the halfling confesses, that he had believed Lucian to be a Druid too, because of his look. They get to enter her floating tower and working their way through the floors, meeting Nerivox, Varina and archmage Areus Timotheus. Finally, when meeting Lyriel Sunshadow, Lucian convinces her into doing some tests with Soran, assisting her with it, but to no avail. The mystery can’t be solved. He also manages to get the group the permission to enter the tower more freely from now on, when he take back the complaint he had made. In the evening, back at the Welcome Wyrm Inn, they play cards, where Lucian is able to see through the pokerface of everyone, with the exception of Tammi, who wins at the end. Lucian recognizes his defeat, becoming interested about Tammi even more. The next day the group starts their new mission, speaking with the barman of the worker’s preferred tavern to get some informations. Lucian’t don’t trust her, especially after finding out, she’s a so called Dreadcaller. He warns the others about this faction and they continue to investigate, entering the second mine. The entrance behind them suddenly crumbles, trapping them inside. They finally find a ritual circle and after killing a cultist and some ghouls, they find a glowing gem. After destroying it and moving forward, the group meet again a bunch of cultist, overhearing them talking to an elvish woman, who leaves. The group then faces Laren the Fanatic and the other cultists, killing them all in a the upcoming fight. Afterwards they analyze the totems and the cravings there, but Lucian can’t decipher, what they might be for. He just finds out, that an altar in one oft he tunnels seems to be a teleportation circle, which the group should not use. While traveling deeper into the tunnels, they free a bunch of prisoners and also find a strange Dragon Egg, which they not leave behind. Lucian suggests to follow the river, which runs underground, so the group might return to the surface. The plan works, until the group reaches a divide. Lucian agrees to Tammi's initial idea of flipping a coin, but when they finally decide to take the other path the coin had shown, Lucian not understand that illogical decision, but agrees nonetheless, since he trust Tammi. The group reaches a wall with just a small tunnel, filled with water, leading through it, but because of his ability that he not need to breath, Lucian can swim through the tunnel, finding out, it ends in the Drakkenfall Lake. There he hears a voice, whispering to him, that the being will help them to navigate through the dark lake, but he need to trust her. Lucian agrees, but only after hearing that the voice might be a friend of Tammi. Lucian leads the others to the surface, guided by small orbs of light. When they realize, that Neria not reached the surface Soran dives back underwater to safe her, followed by Lucian, who stores some breath in his mouth to spend it to Neria. They manage to safe her together, bringing her back to the surface. Lucian is glad, she survived and speaks with her in the evening. When she tells him about strange visions she had while being unconscious, Lucian suggests her to give into that visions, maybe revealing her strange powers, so they can find out, what they mean. Neria becomes angry, since Lucian just seem to see her as another riddle he wants to solve. The next day the group leaves the beach and when Soran left his armor there, Lucian inscribe a philosophical message above it into the rocks, showing Soran’s development as a warrior. The group reaches Willowmere, which get’s attacked by a horde of Goblins and Bugbears. Lucian sneask inside the village, giving Tammi his spell scroll, so they can transform into a goblin, making a distraction of sort, which allows Lucian and Hannibal to release one of the boats, escaping the village. Lucian later directs the boat, using his ability to feel the wind, so he can use it to their advantage. At night, he and the others watch a gigantic Dragon flying over the Drakkenfall Lake to the tower of Lyriel Sunshadow. After returning to Drakkenfall, the group instantly visits Vashar Onyxheart, warning him about the burned village and the upcoming threat of the goblins. While Lucian tries to ignore the constant attempts of Vashar Onyxheart to get the group into helping the city the others accept the mission and volunteer to it. Finally, with his arguments futile Lucian accepts the mission too and agrees to help. He instantly makes a plan, what would be helpful, presenting the next steps to do to the others. Later, when they are all back in the Welcome Wyrm Inn Lucian stays awake much longer then the others, smoking pipe and thinking about the new situation. The next morning Lucian and the others get visited by Noemi Devereaux, who pays them personally for the solved mission in the mines. Lucian asks Beatrice Oakheart, if she will help to defend the city and when she agrees, he tasks her with trying to find Lovira Steelfire. He is convinced, that she might be a powerfull ally, since he not trusts Lyriel Sunshadow. Later, the group arrives at the Wondrous Wares and enters Lyriel’s tower again, but didn‘t get an audience with her. Lucian convinces Jorvanthal into playing Dejarik with him to gain his trust. He is successful and can convince Jorvanthal to allow Noemi Deveraux und Cira Vaneer entrance into the tower. After arriving in the sixth floor, the group meet Lyriel, who is in a conversation with an Elf with golden eyes. Lucian hear the name „Valmerun“ and get convinced that they need to find out more. He visits Ceara Ashbloom, which he noticed in the second floor, hearing from her the truth of the cultists and their plans to reawaken that old Dragon. They share informations and after Ceara left, Lucian returns to the others, telling them, what he had found out. After speaking with the elf with golden eyes Lucian get’s the feeling, that this elf is in fact the golden dragon, they watched before. Varina finally gives the group the hint about a secret tunnel, which leads to the private chambers of Lyriel Sunshadow. Lucian use that tunnel, together with Tammi. Through a trick he can evade the first trap at the stairs, which leads to Tammi getting catched by a mimic. Lucian helps Tammi to get freed, readying themselves for a fight, when the mimic suddenly let them in. They confront Lyriel and Lucian manages to convince her to speak with Noemi Devereaux and later also joins the diplomatic conversation. After they reached an agreement, Lucian helps to convince Soran to give up the Dragon Egg as payment for Lyriel and then make the suggestion, that Lyriel could visit the capital city of the Kingdom of Eldrithorn, informing the king of the upcoming threat. As a Wizard, she can travel much faster and Lucian knows that. Despite their differences Lucian and Lyriel agree to work together, for the sake of Eldrithorn. They start a conversation, talking about different types of magic and Lucian’s reservation slowly vanish. Afterwards, the group visits Vashar Onyxheart again, getting a carriage for their upcoming travel. Lucian stays inside the carriage most of the travel time, using the silence for some concentration training. At their first night watch, Lucian uses the time of his watch to continue reading the book about Fortunado. The next day the group gets attack by a bulette, which move under the earth, but Lucian uses a strategy of getting her out of her cover through the usage of a bait. He helps the others defeating the creature, without getting hurt by it, showing his tactical talents. Afterwards the group meets the massive gladiator Morrask and the Kobold Krixi and Hannibal want to attack them openly, which enrages Lucian who not wanna die for the ideals of heroism. His idea, to speak with the Cyclops, trying to gain his trust, isn’t a good one, since it would put Lucian into massive danger. Finally the group uses a surprise attack. When Hannibal get’s struck down in the fight, this enrages Lucian that much, he ignores any strategy and openly threatens Morrask, but his angry attack fails. He takes the counterattack for his friend and get down but get safed by Neria after the fight is won. He whispers something about „Marley Bolton“ before he awakes and realizes, that it’s Neria above him, not Marley. Afterwards the group speaks with Krixi, learning a lot of informations about the Dragon Zyrion. Lucian let Krixi draw the symbol of the cultists, who killed Zyrion into his notebook, the symbol of the „Eternal One“. He also realizes through this new informations, that the Elf with the golden eyes might not just be a dragon herself, but a member of the mad triumvirate. He even more believes, that Lyriel has a pact with these dragons and so he can’t trust her. Later, in the evening, he smokes a pipe together with Hannibal, apologize by his friend for his words before and that he fears to loose his friends, like he lost the friends of his past. Afterwards, the group detonate the bridge, using a barrel of blackpowder and a burning card from Lucian to slow down the Goblins who are reaching for Drakkenfall. The next morning, after resting near the Drakonir River, Krixi got killed and Lucian instantly start some investigation to find the murderer which Neria reveals herself to be. Hearing about the fact, that she has some strange powers, urging her to bloodshed, Lucian understands her, since he had gone through something similar as a Genasi, but also isn’t sure, if she can be trusted any longer. Soran convinces him into giving her a chance and trying to solve that riddle. Realizing, that Neria need a chance or get down a dark path, he agrees, that she can stay with the group, but one condition of his is, that she need to make some mental training with Lucian from now on, which shall help her to maintain control, so she not give into her powers by instinct again. Later, the group crosses the Drakonir River with the local ferry and they continue their travel, reaching a watchtower a few hours later. By flattering the proud Dwarves, Lucian manages to get his group into passing. In the evening they reach Undermount and enter the tavern in the outskirts. There they meet Boguz, the Brilliant and Lucian take a special drink with him, befriending the other Wizard. For the first time they hear about the true size of the Horde of the Abyssal Eye. Later, in the evening, the group plays a card game, which Lucian looses, since Boguz is a tactical player. They convince him into bringing them into the palace of the dwarven king the next day. This night, Lucian and Neria also take their first session of mental training, starting with the basics of such techniques. The next day the group follows Boguz into the city, to a contest of hammerthrowing, that takes place there. Lucian instructs Soran, that he shall not try to win the contest, so the group can gain the favor of the proud dwarven king. Convinced about this plan he bet 10 silvercoins on the king’s victory, an investment, that pays off for him. Since Yvarra Cielle appeared at the contest and seems to be an old friend of the king, Lucian wants to investigate and together with Hannibal and Neria he’s made invisible by Boguz and the wizard leads them to the noble quarters, where Yvarra resides. After helping Boguz to convince the guards, that he has some invisible piggy bank, they reach the quarters. After finding Yvarra’s quarters, Lucian notices a magical rune at the door and tries to deceive her minion inside, by telling, that he has an important letter and he shall open the door. When the creature inside not do that, Lucian changes plans and want to show the undead, which aura is present inside, to Murgonn to reveal the true identity of Yvarra Cielle as a Necromancer. When the king arrives, the group get attacked by the undead named Snarl and some spectres. Lucian is one of the few adventures able to fight the creatures, without any weapons, through the use of his magic. He get’s struck down by the necromantic energy once, but then, after being revived by Tammi, distracts Snarl together with Neria and uses a weakness in his concentration to finish him off with a special card combination. The group tries to save King Murgonn and Boguz, which are both trapped inside a vortex, Yvarra Cielle created. As a being of thin air Lucian is not affected that much by this vortex and tries to safe the others with his hookcard, but isn’t strong enough to stop the vortex from absorbing them. Finally he let go and follow the others into the vortex, so the group not get separated. Together they hurl through an energy tunnel, leading through the cosmos and getting saved by Ailenia. Lucian throws his hookcard, so Ailena can take it and hurl the group out of the energy tunnel and therefore into safety before a mighty Astral Dragon attacks her. The group falls to a strange world, but Lucian savest hem all by using his card magic to slow down their fall magically, making them land near a lake. The next morning the group meets Torkrates, a bullywug, explaining to them, that they are in the Lands Between and that they could escape from there through reaching Vigil, the city of 1.000 doors. Through his help the group can pass the Champions' Road, finally reaching Eldarion, the Divine Capital. Through the champion’s gate the group could pass, but since every being which is not pure of hearts will get blocked and maybe even destroyed, Lucian not want to pass through it. Quillania prevents the guards from attacking that dubious mortals, leading them to the Mortal Promenade, where they visit a tavern, the House of Acquiescence. There Lucian has the chance to drink the elixir of the god’s, Ambrosia, which he instantly likes. When Ailenia finally also arrives in the tavern, the group learn’s a lot about the Gilded Pantheon, the first gods and their eternal conflict. They even learn how all of this affect the Horde of the Abyssal Eye, which is near Drakkenfall at this point. Lucian struggles with the idea of becoming heroes of Drakkenfall and save the city. He want to handle his personal quests, before returning to Solaaran. Eventually he even could stay in Eldarion, freed from mortal burdens. When Ailenia want to speak with Narika, who will erase the memories of the mortals, sending them back to the material world, Lucian realizes however, how important all of this for his friends is. He contests Ailenia to a game and when he win, she will not speak with her mother about the adventurers and the truths, they now know. He finally manages to win the game and defeat Ailenia. Impressed she offers her help to the mortals, even giving them a piece of the World Core, which can nullify the divine powers of god’s for a moment. Before leaving Eldarion to reach for Vigil, Lucian speaks with Grumnir Oakenvale, the owner of the tavern. He learns, that staying here as a mortal will make it impossible to ever leave that city again. Shocked about this truth, Lucian has to admit, that he can’t do that, since so many souls are waiting for his help. After saying their goodbye to the two god’s Quillania and Ailenia, the group travels the The Champions' Road. Their first encounter are two Peryton, where they need to fight one of them, while an owlbear fights the other one. Lucian is able to damage the creatures with his flaming cards, but nearly incinerates the divine forest while fighting. After defeating the creatures, the group continues forth and meets Arden, a guardian of the Champion’s Road. They can pass, but Lucian has to give up the Ambrosia, he got in the tavern, before leaving. Later on, the group find’s two Halflings, tied up and threatened to get eaten alive by two Trolls. Lucian is hesitant to help them at first, but after realizing, how important that for Hannibal is, he finally agrees. When noticing an Eladrin, who also get’s closer to the Trolls, Lucian uses that tactical advantage and let the other’s wait, until the Eladrin attacked first and got the attention of the Trolls, before they also attack them. With his flaming cards he can stop the regeneration of the trolls, damaging them heavily. After winning the fight, the group get into contact with the Eladrin, Yvraine Emberstrike and want to follor her and the freed halflings to Flower Hill, their hometown. Lucian checks the nearby cave at first and find some potions of different kind and the egg of a harpy. Then the group follow them into their village, meeting their leader, Ailian Brokkoliohr. Lucian manages to convince him to pay Yvraine the full amount of silver coins, since she saved two of his three son’s. Afterwards the group get invited to a party this evening. They celebrate the return of the two Halflings. Yvraine explains to the group, that she got banished from her homeland, which get Lucian into instantly distrusting her, as she not wanna tell them why. Even more, when she explains, that she could use their names to her advantage, after she got them by the group before, through the formulation of the question. Hearing that, Lucian believes, that he made a mistake and became blackmailable by her now. He get’s openily hostile towards Yvraine, believing, that she was banished for becoming a traitor to her people. Later, while smoking a pipe together with Hannibal, Lucian overhears the song Yvraine sings and notice how sad she is on the inside. He realize his mistake and late in the night, while all the others are sleeping, he visits Yvraine outside to apologize for his behaviour. He is honest towards her questions, why he is that distrusting and that he fears nothing more then to loose everyone again. In the end, they both settle their conflict. The next morning the group continues their travel, together with Yvraine. They manage to pass a river through the help of Lucian’s cardhook and later watches a floating fortress, surrounded by gryphons. When reaching the crossroads, Lucian convinces the others to take the path through the crystal valley, using the argument, that keeping Drakkenfall safe might also be depending on the time they waist and passing the valley is much faster then the other road. While passing the valley, strange magical effects appearing. Lucian becomes unable to see the others for a while as part of this effects. The moment, he finally see the biggest arcane crystal in the whole valley, the group get’s attacked by a massive bulette, a gelatinous cube and an umberhulk. While fighting them, Lucian uses a new spell, he had watched Yvraine using, teleporting a short distance to escape the enemies and help the others with some healing potions. He also realizes, that the energy of this valley strengthens his spells, enabling him to cutting in half the bulette with his card. After they finished off all three enemies, they win the fight. Afterwards Lucian tries to get out a piece of the arcane crystal and when he finally manages to do that, he sees, for a moment, different cards with the faces of his four friends, and also Aldwyn Ruberis and Marley Bolton. Lucian realizes, that he is about to loose his path, if he not take on the challenges on his way, but to try to avoid them, what he often did at last. He promises the pictures in front of him, that he will safe them, no matter the cost. A short time later the group finally reaches Dendralis, from which they can arrive at Vigil. After saying their goodbye to Yvraine, the group visits the „Gastrognome“ at first. There they meet Eddy, A Thri-kreen, offering his help, but Lucian can see through his offer, realizing, he wanna trick Soran, revealing the deception, before the Fighter looses all his money. After checking out the information, the group reaches Gilmore's Glorious Goods, meeting Sean-Paul Gilmore. Lucian finally reveales his plan to create an artifact that is able to store a soul after loosing a Devil’s Gambit, to avoid becoming lost to the creator of the game. For the first time he also reveals to the others, that he played the forbidden Devil’s Gambit in the past and want to play it again to safe the souls of his friends he had lost in the first game. He has an anchorrune, created by the mages of the Vandermorn Institute, but it’s unfinished. He tried to strengthen it with the energy catalyst from the living scarecrow, but it didn’t worked. Since he’s also unsure, if he should use the anchorrune or give into his fate more freely, Tammi convinces him, that he must safe the souls of his friends, ignoring the fate for this. Gilmore is also willing to help, since he is a free Wizard and not bound to the rules of the Arcane Conclave. He offers to create a ring with the anchorrune and a potent energy catalyst, but this costs nearly 400 gold coins. Lucian want to refuse, but the others insist him to accept the offer, since they not want loosing him through the Devil’s Gambit. Lucian is stirred and accept. While Gilmore works, the group visits Madame Rouge, which shall help them to return to the material plane. Lucian offers the harpy egg as payment instead of the platinum coin they still have. She accepts, with an additional deal. The group has to do her a favor, which get’s hold on in a contract. Lucian get’s a magical silverspoon, allowing the group to find the door, which leads back to Undermount. Before using it, the group returns to Gilmore’s, where Lucian get’s his new ring, which he names „Gambit’s Bane“. Convinced about the abilities of the other mage, Lucian wanna know, if Gilmore can help him to strengthen his card deck for the upcoming fights. Gilmore explains to him, that he could use essence of the urelements, infusing them into all four types of cards, strengthening them with the raw elemental power, making them stronger and weaponize the cards even without any additional magic, creating an own magical circle inside the deck. But for that Lucian needs to bring him uressence at first. After investing the money, they saved through their deal with Madame Rouge, into a lot of magical items, the group activates the portal key, leading them to the door, which bring them back to Undermount in the material plane. After reaching the dwarven city again, the group meets Gragni Thundercrackand Cailin Còil, convincing both of them to join them in the defense of Drakkenfall. The group manages to make a deal with Gragni: They will safe King Murgonn in the future, when he and the Dwarves help to defend Drakkenfall. They also promise Cailin to help her and the Druids to safe their grove. Afterwards the group uses the fastest steeds possible to return to Drakkenfall. After arriving in the city, they meet with Vashar Onyxheart. Four days remain for preparations and all of the adventurer want to help as best as they can. Lucian spend a lot of time planning defensive strategies with the commanders of the troops, using his skills as a tactician. The rest of his time he stays with Godric Dunward in the laboratories of the latter, using his alchemical knowledge to create a large amount of Alchemist’s Fire to use as a defense. He also convinces Godric to provide his magical ressources and therefore get in possession of some spell scrolls, he plans to use in the battle. The evening before the battle the group spends time with each other and all of them give the promise to survive, so they can continue traveling afterwards, since there is so much unfinished business out there. The first day of battle leads to tremendous losses of the defenders and at the evening the group has to lunge to a small camp, where Brak the Mean the Mean and his guards residing to gain an advantage. They manage to defeat Brak and his troops and getting back into the city through a backdoor, using illusions created by Lucian to avoid their enemies detecting this second entrance. At the second day of the Siege of Drakkenfall the enemies nearly reaching the maingate, but Morketh Gorehowl leads the troops back for the moment when realizing, how strong the defenders still are. Lucian is convinced that defeating Morketh Gorehowl might be essentiell to destroying the chain of commando of the enemies, but his plans how to do this get interrupted, when the group get’s a message, that the enemies using a tunnel to reach the local cemetery. So the adventurers have to take out this group of enemies, led by Eldrin Foultongue, first. At the battle Lucian hides behind a crypt, trying to avoid being detected by the enemies, especially the spectator, which arrived on the battlefield. From his position he manages to slice off one of the eye sockets of the creature, weakening it. He then duels with a Goblin cultist and gets hit with a poisoned dagger, leaving him vulnerable and weakened. Lucian manages to teleport at the rooftop of the crypt, where the goblin can’t get him. After mocking him, the goblin become careless and Lucian can finish him with a razorsharp card. When the group finally manages to destroy the spectator, Eldrin Foultongue and the rest of the attackers, the defenders can seal the tunnels, stopping further attacks. In the aftermath of this second battle the group meets a young girl, possessed by Quillania, who heal their wounds through some magical means. She’s unable to answer Lucian’s question, if the „Eternal One“ and the „Black Queen“ are one and the same, since both names had been dropped frequently before. Realizing, the group will never win in the open field, Lucian also designs a new plan. Meeting the commanders in the map room, he offers the idea of letting the enemies take the outskirts of the city, preparing traps and ambushes inside. In the city the might of the enemy army will need to split up and they will become much easier to defeat. With the argument, that the enemy will reach the city nonetheless and they will do it controlled or uncontrolled, he convinces them to do it. But the army need another day of preparations for this plan and to give them that day, the group uses a dust of disappearance Lucian still has in his possession to leave the city at night, blowing up the bridge at the nearby river, which will slow down the enemies. With the help of Lucian's flaming cards the barrels filled with blackpowder finally get’s ignited, blowing up the whole bridge. The third day the gatehouse falls and the enemies takes the fields in front of the city. A hole in the walls allows Morketh Gorehowl and Arrekoz the Mighty to lead some of their troops to build up another outpost there. The group tries to attack the two commanders in hoping of defeating them. They manage to defeat Arrekoz and kill him, but Morketh is a monumental enemy. Lucian’s magical cards have no effect on his form and the Ogre manages to smash the Genasi down the watchtower, where he hides, by destroying it completly. He manages to get into relative safety, but have to watch helpless, how his friends are smashed by the overwhelming might of the enemy. Lucian and Tammi defeat the Ogretyrant, standing in their way and trying to help their friends, but their enemies are way to powerful. But then they notice, how Morketh kills Makkathun, the shaman serving the Black Queen, since he no longer want dark magic to influence his troops. Morketh even consider the adventurers could help him to free his warlord, Varika Draguus, from the dark influence. But when the group resist, he strikes down Soran and want to leave afterwards, believing that he will not find any support there. Lucian mocks him, realizing, that they never again might get a chance to defeat the ogre warlord. He has no idea, that an enraged Morketh is even more dangerous, now trying to kill Lucian for blaming his honor as a warrior. Lucian tries to escape, watching his friends getting struck down with ease by Morketh one by one. Only he and Neria remain in the end and Neria leave the battlefield, since she not wanna die. Lucian want to follow her, using a spell scroll to create magical darkness and therefore escape the ogre. He then watches, how his friends get bind together to become prisoners of the Horde. He also hears, that Soran had indeed died, after taking the last hit of Morketh, which shocks him. Ashamed that he thought about leaving them behind and realizing, that he can’t loose his friends, Lucian stands up again, confronting Morketh, using the teleportation scroll as a bait. He explains, that he could bring himself and his friends into safety, taking the advantage, that Morketh knows nothing about magic and therefore not knows, that a being must be awake to get teleported. He want to negotiate with Morketh and with the teleportation scroll as a bait it works. In the apple orchards of Drakkenfall Morketh, Tammi and Lucian, as the last members of the group being awake, they negotiate and finally come to the agreement to lead Varika Draguus into a trap inside the city, so she can be freed from the influence of the Black Queen. After returning into their tower in the city a short time later, Lucian takes a glass of wine and sits in a chair at the window, watching the night sky and speaks with Hannibal, who is still unconscious, since he has the need to speak with someone about the moral decisions of the evening and the risky plan they now forged. Not long after Lucian get’s contacted by Vashar Onyxheart, telling the Genasi about a massive purple worm threatening parts of the city. Lucian and also Tammi follow them into the map room, where they make another plan to fend off this attack. Lucian tells the commanders about the deal they made with Morketh Gorehowl, but telling them, they had defeated Morketh and forced him into doing that ambush, since he knows, that the military leaders never would accept, that the negotiations had happened at eye level. Lucian also warns Navira Blacktalon, who want lead the defense against the purple worm, that divine magic will be blocked in the upcoming battle for a while, so she can’t rely on her magical abilities. Later on, Lucian and Tammi meet again with the reanimated Soran and Hannibal, telling them about the new plan they made with Morketh Gorehowl. They later meet with Tara Kayris, Ariana Selephren, Godric Dunward and Lyriel Sunshadow to speak about their possibilties to exorcise the Black Queen out of Varika Draguus. After doing some research using the skull of Eldrin Foultongue and the knowledge, he still have, they realize, that arcane magic remains as the only possibility, but is not designed for this. Lyriel, Godric and Lucian finally has no choice then to use their last remaining day to create a new form of spell, a banishment spell, able to cast out the Black Queen of the body of Varika Draguus. To generate enough magical power, they channel each other, like a Witch Coven would make it. Lucian finally agrees to this plan but is still sceptical against Lyriel and her intentions. Noticing this, she speaks with him and Soran after their meeting in private. There can be no mistrust, when they will channel each other. Lucian confronts her with the fact, that Zenarissaxx spoke with her, being one of the Dragons of the mad Triumvirate, trying to get into possession of the dragon bones at the ground of Drakkenfall Lake. Lyriel confirm his thoughts, but then reveals her true intentions. She’s looking for her heritage and only this dragons could help her with that. Realizing, that the two Wizards are not that different in their thoughts and just do, what is needed, Lucian finally agrees to bury his mistrust against Lyriel. While the battle in the streets continue for another day, Lucian, Lyriel and Godric create a complete new spell, preparing for the final stand. Before the final fight begins, Hannibal speaks with Lucian, revealing his fear, that he might die in the upcoming battle. He wants Lucian to bring his hat to his family, if that happens and to tell them about his bravery, which the Genasi agrees to. But he convinces Hannibal, that he will not die, but survive to continue their travel. After the whole group promising each other, that they will survive this last encounter, a gigantic meteor appears at the sky, threatening the palace. The adventurers manage to escape, with Lucian tasking Rehman Medo to leading the civilists downstairs to the cellars, where they have the biggest chance of survival. Afterwards the group heads into the streets to begin their final stand. Lucian and the other two Wizards positions themselves at the rooftops of the nearby buildings, so they can see each other to channel their powers. But Lucian get’s attacked, when the army of enemies arrive and has to take cover for a moment. He can hide there for a moment, but has to take on his position again to channel the spell. With the help of Vashar Onyxheart, who takes him and places him at his position again, Lucian manages to start the spell, together with the other two wizards. To their surprise, the spell works instantly, but with some side effects. Lucian and the rest of his group were taken by black energy, erupting from her body and brought into the mind of Varika Draguus. There they have to confront the spectator again they met at the Cemetery and also the manifestation of the Black Queen herself. The Spectator traps Soran and Tammi and therefore Hannibal and Lucian need to defeat the creature. Lucian is able to defend himself against the eyebeams, but realizes, that his spells, through his own limitations, are not strong enough, unable to defeat the monstrous being. Hannibal finally get him some momentum through his spells, so Lucian take advantage of a weakness and slice the creature in half in the last moment. Afterwards the group tries to free Varika Draguus, trapped inside black tentacles in her own mind. Lucian realizes, that the Black Queen manipulates her through her feelings for Zara Redhand, one of her commanders. He mocks the warlord and request to see her true strength. Supported by Tammi, Lucian manages to get the attention of Varika and show her, through an illusion, a picture of her, trapped in the fangs of the Black Queen. Again mocking her to show her true strength, he and the others manage to free her, so Varika Draguus can end the mind control oft he Black Queen once and for all. After their victory the group gets transported to Eldarion again, finding themselves in the council chamber of the Gilded Pantheon with the gods discussing their further fate. The group gets the offer to forget everything about the pantheon and the things, that happened, what Lucian and also Neria thinks, would work best, but the other’s refuse. Lucian also rejects the idea of Tammi becoming a champion of Quillania and the others therefore they followers. He can’t do that, as a member of a noble house this would even more ashame him. As Quillania, to solve the situation, declares, that she is ready to accept punishment to live a mortal life if that would safe the adventurers, Lucian not want to be in doubt oft he goddess, who hadn’t done anything wrong and therefore offers himself as a champion too, if that would be a solution, ready to fight for the agenda of the god’s, even if he not fully believes in such things. Since the gods are not accepting that offer and plan instead to watch the situation before taking action, which can need a few years and that might be to late to stop the Eternal One from fulfilling his plans, Lucian finally forget his pride as a noble and urges Tammi to accept the offer as a champion of Quillania. When Narika finally offers the group to forget everything or to accept, that they all must fight in the name of the gilded pantheon and stop Ouroboros and the Eternal One, Lucian, beside the others, agree to become a hero for the god’s of this pantheon, since he not want to loose his friends, the first ones, he found after so much time. After the decision is made, the adventurers suddenly awake in a medical camp in Drakkenfall. They meet Vashar Onyxheart, hearing for the first time of the massive losses, this last battle had required. Lucian is shocked to hear, that Lyriel Sunshadow died, trying to defend the bodies oft he adventurers from the attack of Varika Draguus. The group then returns to the Welcome Wyrm Inn, needing a few days to regenerate and come to terms with the results oft he battle, the things, they found out and the consequences their deeds might have.Off-Season Special: Mysteria Magicae

They connect each other by enchanting one of Lucian’s rings, so he’s able to communicate with her. Education
Lucian is from noble birth and despite being no longer the heir of House Dùmas, he got a proper education by a lot of different teachers and professors in his youth, which teached him in a wide variety of areas, where he gained some expertise. He had learned a lot about the history of Vasloria, politics, geography of Arceiron, different species and their cultural differences, mathematics, physics and much more. Since he originates from a mage family out of the Kingdom of Solaaran, he even learned a lot about the supernatural and magical world too from an early age on. In most areas of expertise Lucian got some basic knowledge and even he is not a full scholar and has often no informations in the deeper matters, he knows some stuff to nearly everything.
After he joined the Vandermorn Institute and became a novice as a Mage he intensified his studies on the Arcane and Magic to an even greater decree. Not only to understand his own inherent abiliites as a Genasi, but also to fully learn the complex and often difficult teachings of the Institute, he gave his whole being into his studies and became a docile and intensive learner. This had lead to the fact, that he knows a lot about the magical world now, especially the Arcane Arts and even if he has still a lot to learn, he has a wide knowledge yet, which helps in a lot of situations.
Employment
As a noble Lucian had the privilege, that he never needed to work in his youth. When he grew older he visited the taverns and pubs of Orthreris and learned to play games of chance, in which he soon was very good himself. He then earned his money by playing that games and defeating others. With his first profit he even bought fine clothes to establish his formal personality as a "Nobleman Gambler".
After leaving the Vandermorn Institute as a full trained Mage and starting his own journey through Vasloria, he continued to using his skills as a gambler to earn money, whenever he needs it. He still uses every chance in cities and especially taverns to play games, earning money, informations and other things of use in the process. Only when playing with people he considers his friends, he waives to play for a price and just plays for fun then.
Accomplishments & Achievements
Lucian was able to become a good gambler and a talented Mage respectively. He mastered the difficult and complex teachings of Dorian Vandermorn and mastered the rare art of wielding card magic. Even there is still a lot to learn and he has not mastered every aspect and also not the full potential of the card magic yet, he has become a serious enemy on the battlefield and the game table respectively.
Lucian managed to play a pivotal role in the defense of the city of Drakkenfall against the invasion of the Horde of the Abyssal Eye. He not just supported his group on the battlefield, being able to take out some of the commanders of the horde, but also created Alchemical Fire to put into use in the final stand and was, through his tactical mastermind, able, to orchestrate the trap leading to the downfall of Varika Draguus and the defeat of the Black Queen. He negotiated with Morketh Gorehowl to create that ambush, convinced the commanders into letting the attackers into the outskirts of the city to weaken them and even designed a whole new banishment spell together with Lyriel Sunshadow and Godric Dunward. Without Lucian the city would have fallen and he got honored as a "Hero of Drakkenfall" later on, together with his friends.
Failures & Embarrassments
Lucian's biggest failure in life was his loose in the ultimate duel of fate against the creator of the Devil's Gambit himself. In his naive arrogance he believed, he would be strong enough to fulfill, what not even the best student of the Vandermorn Institute, Marley Bolton, was able to do. He convinced his friends into follow his lead, with the goal in mind to free the soul of Marley and end the Devil's Gambit once and for all. He strongly believed in his skills and talents, but in the end, he failed horribly. His friends lost their souls to the Cursed Aces and Lucian wasn't any closer to free the soul of his mentor, on the contrary the souls of his friends got on the stakes too now.
After this defeat his mentor Aldwyn Ruberis took the blame for playing the strictly forbidden Devil's Gambit and loosing the souls of four students to the Creator of the Gambit to himself. He took the punishment for Lucian's failure, loosing his status and position as a professor of the Vandermorn Institute and might face some trial and process too. Lucian not wanted him to do that, but had no influence on it. So the only thing he could do is to fulfill the last task his mentor gave to him: Finding a way to defeat the Devil's Gambit and free the souls of Marley and his friends.
Mental Trauma
From an early age on Lucian got told and shown by his father and most of his family, that he will never achieve something and never be accepted, just because of his birth as a Genasi, something he had no influence into. He learned, that he can't be loved for what he is and hated his own being a long time as a child. His mother finally teached him, that every person has his fate to fulfill and that he will understand one day the true meaning behind the fact, why he is, who he is. Since that moment Lucian fully and deeply believes into fate, since it is the only foothold to him, not to question himself over and over again the same question: "Why can't I just be as normal as the others?"
Since he had no idenity inside his family and got stripped from every title and heritage early on, Lucian never learned to build up his own personality. To compensate this he adopted the persona of a "Nobleman Gambler", which is some type of cliche around players of games. Up to this day he tries to fully grew into this role, but it's merely a facade to others, hiding the fact, that Lucian Dùmas has no idea, who he really is.
Failing in the Devil's Gambit and watching his friends loosing their souls to the shadow players called Cursed Aces left marks on Lucian's soul. To not fully go mad after this events, especially the visit in the Nine Hells as part of this horrible event, his mind forgot the details about the duel, so he only see schemes of what had happened before his eyes, when he tries to remember in detail. He starts sweating and becoming mentally unstable, whenever he tries it, so most of the time he tries to not think about it, being glad, he forgot most of the details. Only in his dreams the full horror returns to him, every time, he closes his eyes. He is unable to find a proper sleep without any magical help and for that even needed to buy an artifact which sends him good dreams, so he is able to rest and calm down for a little while.
Lucian also can't forgive himself for the failures he had done, for his arrogance and the overestimation of his own skills and talents, which constantly led into others paying the price for it. His conscience deeply charged with the burden of his guilt, he got disillusioned, leaving behind childish dreams of heroism and starting to believe, that only strategy, planning and intrigue would help to achieve the own goals. He became broken as a upcoming hero at this moment and had fallen deep into a sea of guilt and sorrow.
Intellectual Characteristics
Nearly his whole life Lucian spent with learning about all sort of things, got teached by recognized professors and mentors in his youth and later by skilled mages at the Vandermorn Institute and so he gained a vast knowledge in a wide array of fields. He is, despite his young age, a wise man, a fact, he is aware of. He sees knowledge and information as the most important skills and traits to achieve his goals, gathering them, whenever possible and use it at the right moment to gain advantage in any given situation. Because of his teachings and learnings he has a lot of knowledge, especially in the fields of the arcane and supernatural. He learned a lot about the Weave, the use of magic as a whole and since he is practicing a very specialized and hard to master type of arcane magic, he had to gain a great understanding of the magical world in general, making sure, he don't get overwhelmed by the magic he tries to use. So he knows a lot about magic in all types, different schools, rituals and practices, even have some knowledge about more unorthodox fields of magic. Beside that he has a vast but not so deep knowledge about the history of Vasloria and Arceiron as a whole, creatures and places. He even knows some basics in the fields of alchemy, being able to produce potions and tinktures when needed.
If Lucian not have the information and knowledge he needs in a situation, he is quickly to be interested in learning more and filling the gaps in his mind. A puzzle, a mystery or a secret still unsolved can catch his attention very easy and leads him into taking up research, trying to learn more and get the answers needed. It doesn't matter at such moments, if he is in a dangerous situation, an uneasy place or not have the time for it, but to get the answers, discover the mystery or solve the puzzle is more important to him then anything else. Since he fears nothing more, then the fact, he could miss any information he later needs to be successful, he would stop at nothing to solve a mystery, whenever it comes to him. He also fears, that having not the full information and therefore the overview about a situation would lead to him loosing control over it, since there would be factors, he can't calculate into his plans. To avoid this, he tries to gather as much knowledge as possible firsthand and is soon into question anything and anyone with the single goal in mind to be the winner at the end through the power of knowledge, that would help him achieve this. Therefore he loves making plans and constructing strategic methods, being more of a tactician then anything else. In his mind he plays the world like a game and to win, he needs to know anything, calculating any factors to play the best hand and achieve victory at the end.
As opposed to his enormous theoretical knowledge in a vast array of fields Lucian nearly has no wisdom in fields of practical knowledge, like the wilderness or survival in nature. He knows the basics of some well known facts for sure, but because of him having grewn up behind the safe walls of his family home and later a magical academy he never was forced to learn practical skills, that would help him survive in dangerous situations. So he often lacks the awareness of danger and therefore the necessity of being careful. Because of having a lot of knowledge and therefore planned a strategy before, Lucian appears very self confident in most situations of his adventurous life, but being in a situation without any plans he had forged before he needs to improvise and is not well into that, often leading to just even more trouble.
Morality & Philosophy
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
Lucian's biggest motivation is to make compensation for the mistakes he had done in the past and to make things right so he can finally be freed from the burden and the guilt on his soul. While on his journey he tries to become an even better Mage, perfecting his skills as a spellweaver and a gambler respectively, with the goal in mind to defeat the Cursed Aces and free the souls of his four friends. He also hopes to reestablish the status and title of his mentor Aldwyn Ruberis, making clear to the Arcane Assembly, that it was not Aldwyn that played the Devil's Gambit in the first place, but him. He knows, he can just do that, when he freed the souls of his friends, otherwise they would imprison him, maybe even stripping him off of his magical abilities and therefore making every try to rescue the other students pointless.
Another great motivation to Lucian is to free the soul of his first mentor and fatherfigure, Marley Bolton, from the grasp of the Creator of the Devil's Gambit himself. He tried that in the past and failed horribly with dire consequences, realizing, that this would be the hardest task of his whole life, maybe nearly impossible to achieve. To free the soul of his mentor and give him the eternal peace of the afterlife he would have earned, Lucian must find a way to destroy the Devil's Gambit once and for all, ending the scourge of the cursed game, finding out the truth behind the claiming of souls and finishing of the devilish creator of the game. This quest was failed by the best student of the Vandermorn Institute before and no one believes, that it still might be possible. But Lucian must give it a try and can't step back, because that would damn the soul of his mentor to all eternity.
Lucian also wants to find out about his heritage as a Genasi. He has no idea, why he is born a Genasi, when his family consisted of humans for generations. He believes, that somewhere in the past of House Dùmas there must be a secret to reveal, something hidden from the noble house to ensure their beliefs into pure bloodstatus. Since whatever it is determined his whole life, he is eager to find it out. Something deep inside him even has the hope he would find redemption in the eyes of his family, when he unravels the family secret, being able to become part of the noble house again and accepted into their ranks for the first time ever. He is not interested in becoming the heir anymore, but in secret yearns for the acceptance of his family and especially his father.
He also had heard from the creator of the Devil's Gambit, that there is "some special hidden potential" inside of him, because of his heritage, but he has no idea, what the reason for that is or what this Devil meant with it. He got spared from loosing his soul because of that potential, which showed him, that this must true. He wants to find out the truth about his heritage, still believing into the promising fate, his mother had told him about, when he was a child. He wants to find out, why he is a Genasi, what inherent powers he have and he wants to understand, what fate has planned to him. Then, so he hopes, he would finally come to term with the fact of not being a human like everyone else and being able to accept, why he had to suffer so much his whole life. And if he is able to understand and accept that, he finally would be able to make his peace with it.
Likes & Dislikes
Lucian likes all type of satisfaction and distraction, be it alcohol, games of chance, sex or anything else, that would help him to free his mind and allow him to give into pleasure and joy. He is not picky, when it comes to the art of hedonistic behaviour and likes to try out anything, he not knows. Well made food or a massage can be as satisfying like a good bottle of whiskey. He has a special taste for exotic things, be it spices, he can't get everywhere, a special type of alcohol, which is rare, hard to make or otherwise special, food, that is cooked in a way, not everyone knows or even the company of persons, that are somewhat special, be it their species, their behaviour or their skills in distracting or satisfying him. He is a true hedonist, enjoying the pleasures of life as often as he can, deeply believing, that this is, what life is really made for.
He not likes heroic behaviour of any kind. He not believes in heroes anymore, since his own try of becoming a hero by saving his mentor and defeating a threat to the realm ended disastrous. Disillusioned and broken he tries to stay realistic and do anything he can do, even helping others, but planned and strategic, not with the single thought in mind of being a hero and therefore it will be impossible to loose. He not believes into the classical heroic tropes any longer, like selflessness or the idea of a good purpose is enough to fight even the greatest of evil. He thinks, that this are stories for children, heartwarming and lovely, but in the end just stories. He even recognizes the Heroes of Vasloria as a bunch of fools, which had good fate, when they tried out the impossible and won, but not believing, that this could be repeated by anyone or anyone should be foolish enough to try do it.
Virtues & Personality perks
Lucian is well into reading other persons and able to understand their emotions and their desires even when he knows the person just a short period of time. He has a great empathy, which allows him to get a good insight into others and their motivations. Since he can understand others that well, he can make a good use of that, when it comes to discussions or negotiations. He often knows, what to say or to do to win the other's favor. As a nobleman he also knows how to act friendly and caring, how to be polite and respectful and therefore often gaining respect in return. He's good in conversations in general, able to influence others subtly by his words or behaviour and make them thinking of him the way, he wants them to. He can be sometimes manipulative, but when he really likes a person and cares of her, he is a very good interlocutor, always trying to comfort this person, often fully understanding the burden of her problems and the struggles they might be into just because of his talent in deeply feeling into others. In such moments he even will offer his help, without thinking of any advantage to himself. That's the moments, Lucian shows his true intentions and his deeply caring personality, which he normally trie to hide beneath the facade of a cold strategist and manipulator.
Vices & Personality flaws
Lucian is obsessed with the belief in fate. He not beliefs into luck or bad luck and even saw a good or a bad hand in card games or a good or bad roll of a dice just as an expression of fate in one's favor or against them. He fully lives with the idea in his mind of every person having a special fate to fulfill and giving into it is the only way since fighting the fate is pointless anyway. He watches every living person as a slave of the chains of fate and therefore stoic tries to fulfill his own fate. This can sometimes be a great motivation to him, but on the other hand it often diminishes his potential, since he will never try to overcome obstacles with all of his will and determination, since believing, that if he is doomed to fail, there is nothing, he can do against it.
Because of his sado-hedonistic tendencies Lucian is easily distracted by the enjoyable things in life. If there is to pick between duty and pleasure, he is always into taking the pleasure, leaving his duties or his task behind. If there is a decision to make, he will be tried to pick the one, which bring the least trouble to himself or the greatest reward to him, even if it is the worse pick at the long end. Often he needs to be remembered about the greater good or the plans they made before, when getting into such a situation and more then once he got caught giving into this weakness way to easily.
Lucian also loves to feel superior, which is some sort of negative personality trait of him. He enjoys winning, be it games, battles or even simple situations like discussions, negotiations or demonstrations of knowledge. To him everything is a game and he tries to win with everything he can. That often leads to a behaviour of arrogance, when he got the feeling, he has the "better hand" to play and enjoy the feeling of superiority that comes with it. Knowing things, that others not know, being able to do things, other's cant or winning a fight or gaining the upper hand by use of his skills and talents make him feel superior and he will enjoy that as long as he can. Mostly he not fully recognizes this behaviour or is aware of it, which is the reason, he often do it while being with his friends too, not only his enemies. It's never his intention to blame them or make them feel worse, but it's a deep weakness in his personality, showing the insecurites he have deep inside, which he hadn't overcome yet.
Personality Quirks
Lucian has the habit to whisper the word "Fascinating!" whenever he get's surprised by any mystery, puzzle or secret unknown to him. This normally signalizes the moment, where Lucian's attention got bound to something and he is interested in taking up any research necessary to solve that given mystery.
He also has the habit of draw out one of his cards and slice slowly over anything, that got his attention. It's always the first check he does when analyzing something or trying to find out more. He revealed to his friends at one point, that he do that, to get informations he can analyze, be it arcane residues at a ritual circle, something releasing itself, when he touch it or even see the reaction of someone nearby. Based on that informations he then can make a new plan or strategy. He not cares, if that offend someone or if it is inappropriate, since it works on a regular basis and give him the advantage of knowledge in a lot of situations.
Representation & Legacy
Lucian adopted the persona of a "Nobleman Gambler" as a young man, giving himself some identity of his own and a facade, which he can use to hide his true motivations and ambitions. Over the years he followed the advice of his first mentor and tried his best to fill his chosen persona with life, adopting more and more into this personality and finally became, what at first was nothing more then a illusion. He now travels the world, trying to live up to the persona, he build up to himself and his legacy could become that of one of the biggest gambler and Mages in history, which he will achieve, when he's able to fulfill his ultimate goal in life: Destroying the Devil's Gambit by beating it once and for all, something no one up to this day was ever able to do.
It's also Lucian's secret dream and biggest hope, that one day, many years in the future, He can become a sage at the Vandermorn Institute, accepted by his own family, teaching a new generation of students in the art of card magic. He's also dreaming of having a family of his own and being respected by Mages of all kind. He even would write a book about his journey and the things he had done and the techniques he used, called "The Art of Gambit".
Social
Contacts & Relations
Marley Bolton
Marley Bolton, better known as "Old Bones" was a Drunkard in the taverns of Orthreris, Lucian's hometown. The young Genasi befriended him as a teenager, when he traveled the streets of the city alone for the first time. He became a fatherfigure to Lucian, the first one to accept him as the person he is. Lucian got his love of games from the old man, be it cards, dice or chess. He also learned from Marley how to build up a persona of his own, so it was him, that made Lucian a real "Gambler". After the unfortunate death of the old man, Lucian inherited his old card deck and found out, the old Drunkard was once a powerful Mage of the Vandermorn Institute, using his contacts to bring Lucian into this academy posthum. So Lucian was grateful to the old man, owing him anything. When he later found out, that Marley's soul was cursed and hadn't found peace, but got claimed by the creator of the Devil's Gambit Lucian tried to free him, but failed at first with dire consequences. But up to this day freeing the soul of Marley Bolton and giving him eternal peace is one of the biggest goal's and motivations to Lucian. He wants to become worthy of the trust Marley had in him in the first place and save his first mentor and fatherfigure, which was more a father to him then his real father ever was.Aldwyn Ruberis
A Tiefling and Master of the House of Cards at the Vandermorn Institute. He was once the best friend of Marley Bolton and took up the education of Lucian after the death of the old man. He trained Lucian and made him what he is today, earning his respect as a mentor and teacher over the course of many years. Aldwyn always tried in secret to free Marley's soul himself, but was never able to until his friend died and his soul got claimed. Finding out Lucian would give everything to fulfill, what he never was able to do, he sacrificed his position and status, taking the blame for playing the Devil's Gambit and made sure, that Lucian got not imprisoned for his failings. With that he enabled Lucian to finish his mission and send him on his journey. He also was the one, that gave Lucian the anchorrune he had hidden all the years, with the mission to complete it as a helpful too in the battle against the Devil's Gambit. He sees potential in Lucian and really wants him to be successful. Lucian feel a deep guilt for his master taking on the blame and punishment of his failings. He is determined to reestablish his name and status as soon as possible and take the responsibility himself.Silanis Glandoran
A Half-Elf and another student of Aldwyn Ruberis. Lucian and him became best friends at their time at the Vandermorn Institute. Both being halfbloods they had a deep understanding of each other, both knowing, how it is of not getting accepted as the person, who you are. Both shared the dream of proving their worth and showing the world, what they are able to do. His soul got lost to the Cursed Aces after the loss at the ultimate Devil's Gambit, making it Lucian's mission to save him.Kaeley Amandis
A young human and another student of Aldwyn Ruberis. She was Lucian's first crush and he always flirted with the young girl, but never got the chance to show her his true feelings. Nonetheless they were close friends and shared the dream of becoming respected Mages. Kaeley's dream was to prove her own worthiness, since her family never believed in her potential and magical abilities. She was stoic, self confident and strongwilled in her behaviour and the dream of achieving her goals. Lucian met Lyriel Sunshadow in Drakkenfall for the first time. From the start he believed in her hiding something and that she's dealing with dark powers, like the Dragons of the mad triumvirate. For that, he more then once tricked Lyriel, trying to gain advantage over her and watched her as a potential enemy, but also a necessary ally. Later, near the final stand of the Siege of Drakkenfall, he learned more about her true intentions and slowly starts to trust her, fully understanding her need to learn more about her heritage. Working together they created a powerful banishment spell saving the city. Later, when he believed in her dying to protect him and his friends, he admits, that she's a good soul. Finally he found out the truth about her and found her in her weakened state. Thankful for her trust and helpfulness, he made a deal with her. She became some sort of mentor to Lucian, helping him to advance the teachings of Dorian Vandermorn, even into forbidden ways and control this dangerous techniques with the help of Chronomancy. He was the first friend he found on his travels and got safed by him in a dire moment at a tavern, totally unexpected. At first Lucian traveled with him only to repay the debt of being safed from thugs or imprisoned by guards, a deed, at which the totemic focus of the druid got broken, but when he was finally able to help him to gain another totemic focus and therefore repaying his debt, a bond of friendship had been forged between them. Realizing traveling with a companion is much better then being alone all the time, Lucian agreed to the offer of Hannibal to continue traveling together. Since then they are companions and friends, traveling around Vasloria to fulfill their own personal goals and dreams.Gilded Dawn
After forging a group not only with Hannibal, but also with Tammi Tränenkuss, Soran Crofter and Neria Scarlet Lucian slowly adopts a deep friendship with all of them. At first just watching them as comrades in a shared goal they slowly become more to him, through their welcoming and open-minded personalities. He not want to admit that for a long time, believing, that he can't find any new friends, since that would lead to his downfall, but in the end he realizes, that they won his heart. Joaquin Dùmas
The father of Lucian and leader of House Dùmas of Solaaran is a famous archmage and trained Wizard, with a lot of political influence in the magocracy of Solaaran. As a strong believer in the family's philosophy of being proud of a pure bloodstatus and therefore the achievement of arcane mastery through sheer will and discipline, his firstborn son Lucian embodies everything, that the archmage hates. His son being a Genasi was a shock at first, but then he tried to find out, how this is even possible. He was unable to find any hints, at which point the family could have the blood of a Genie in their ranks, defiling it, but nonetheless he started to hate his son just for being a non-human and therefore the embodiment against everything, the family stands for. He feared the shame it would bring to House Dùmas when they found out, that the whole proudness of a pure bloodstatus is just a lie. He started to neglect Lucian, especially after his younger brother Arthris Dùmas is born. This went that far Joaquin disinherited Lucian from any titles, status and heritage and put his younger son into it's place. Since he wasn't able to find any hints about the reason, why Lucian is a Genasi, he just tried to ignore him. When Lucian went to the Vandermorn Institute, Joaquin didn't cared that much and was glad, his son would leave for good. Lucian tries his best to show his father, that bloodstatus alone is nothing meaningful and that he is a worthy member of House Dùmas despite his species alone.Camille Dùmas
Lucian's mother was married in the family and therefore not so interested in their philosophy of bloodstatus. She loved her firstborn son unquestioning and didn't care, that he is a Genasi. She got accused of having cheated on her husband after the birth of Lucian, which she neglected her whole life. She had no explanation why he is a non-human, but she was sure, that it was for a reason. As a strong believer in fate, she teached Lucian, that he should be proud of who he is, since he got the burden of his birth for a reason and one day he would find out, why. Until then he should not be determined by the fact of being a Genasi alone. Lucian inherited this teachings deep inside his heart, especially after his mother died to a fever, when he was just eleven years old. After her death and with the end of her protection, Lucian lost much of his former privileges and was forced to leave the family's home, spending most of his time in the taverns of Orthreris. There he started to forge his own destiny, name and persona, but never forgot the words of his mother, that he just have to find the reason, why he is the person, he is.Arthris Dùmas
The six years younger brother of Lucian, who became the new heir of House Dùmas instead of his older brother. He is born a human and therefore don't have to struggle with all the troubles and problems, Lucian have. Arthris is the son, Joaquin Dùmas always wanted to have. A talented young Wizard of pure blood and able to follow the family's philosophy and making him proud. Arthris often feels uncomfortable against Lucian, since he not wanted to become the heir of the House and took the place of his older brother. He not have a problem with him being a Genasi, but has no other choice then to follow the lead of their father and his designation. Arthris and Lucian both secretly hope, they can have a better relationship as brothers one day, none of them blaming the other for the things, that happened, but up to this day they were unable to fix their relationship, ruined by their father.Religious Views
The Morrigan
There is no god Lucian follows in particular and he is a strong believer into all gods of the pantheons, which got worshipped in Vasloria, but the Morrigan as the goddess of conflict and fate is the one, he adheres the most. It's especially her aspect as goddess of fate and prophecy and therefore weaver of the fate he is into. He believes, that the Morrigan had woven the fate of every mortal and foresaw their destiny, which got forged a long time before a being is even born. Therefore a mere mortal can't defy the chains of fate or the will of the goddess and is strictly bound to it. In his eyes, the only thing a mortal can do is to accept the foreseen fate and walk the path the goddess has chosen. As the Morrigan also being the goddess of conflict Lucian believes, that even games can be a sort of conflict, just depending on the stakes and that she will watch such conflicts the same way like a battle with sword or sorcery. He even believes, that the Morrigan might have played the games before the mortals do and therefore weaving their fate in the way that fits her. In the eyes of Lucian something like luck or bad luck not exists, but it's the unrelenting fate of a mortal, that decides, which way someone has to walk and which burden to bear.Social Aptitude
Lucian is a nobleman, raised as heir of House Dùmas and even after he got disinherited he still was a noble and bear a name of nobility and honor. As such he has a great ego and even when he confirms often enough that he watches the lower people as the better ones, he still acts as a noble and as someone from a higher caste then most others, differentiate himself from this people. He is fully aware of this fact and therefore agrees to the argument, that he himself is not a "good person" either. On the outside he acts as someone, who is trapped in his behaviours and the decadence of a lifestyle, he can't give up. Being a so called "Nobleman Gambler" is also part of his facade and self-given personality and so he tries to live up to this at every chance, fulfilling a lot of the chliche's, other have, when they see him for the first time. Only a few persons know, that this is just the mask he shows the world. In fact Lucian all the time and in secret tries to be a good person, but his own views and beliefs sometimes stands in that way. He also not want someone to see his true intentions, because that just would awoke expectations into him and he not want this happen. So he continues of playing the role of an arrogant noble, succumbing in his own ego, while in secret trying to be someone, which helps others and do his best of changing the world for the better.
Speech
Lucian most of the time speaks like a noble or sage, using his complex vocabulary to express himself in a picturesque and elegant way. As a cultivated man, which spend most of his life as an adult in libraries and in his youth in upper class societies, he has a lot of knowledge, not only in a vast array of fields but also in the use of language. As a Mage, words are even more important to him and so he is well trained into speaking loud, clear and understandable. He is also trained into speaking differently from most others and he has internalized it that much, that in most situations he not even notice that, often leading to other's, especially more simple minded persons, not fully understanding, what he is talking about. Lucian enjoys his language skills a lot, because it give him the feeling of superiority and it also puts him into a much better position, right from the start. If someone knows him well and had heard his voice often enough, they might not hear it anymore, except they listen to that consciously.
