History of the world

The founding

During the founding the gods brought the first creatures to the world; elves, dwarves, humans and many other races. Since the world was still ruled by elemental chaos, most people did not live long. Because of this the gods gifted mortals arcana magic to defend themselves and created the metallic dragons to help protect them.   Before the gods arrived to this world Elemental Titans (Primordials) had been laid beneath the ground and now rose up to destroy the gods' creations. Their carnage attracted the attention of demons from the Abyss, who came to feast on the remains.   Meanwhile the gods started splitting into two factions, the Prime Deities who wished to stay and conquer the Primordials for their creations and the Betrayer Gods who had given up, some giving into madness and some twisting their creations and joining forces with the Abyss. The Prime Deities with help of mortal champions destroyed the Primordials and banished the Betrayer Gods from the Material Plane. With peace achieved the first true civilization took root as the city of Lixios.

Age of Arcanum

Mortal mages started to grow very powerful, learning to build entire castles in a day or creating life-forms of their own. Driven by the quest for immortality, an unnamed mortal woman challenged and defeated the god of death himself, ascending to take his place in the pantheon.   One man, Archmage Vespin Chloras, sought to harness the power of the Betrayer Gods and broke open their prison, where they had been making creations of their own, and released them back into the Material plane.   Driven by an urge for domination the exiled gods enthralled the mage who had freed them and founded a kingdom of their own on the far end of the world. This kingdom was called Ghor Dranas. From their kingdom the Betrayer Gods spread their influence and eventually made an assault on the bastion of Lixios. This battle lasted twenty days and nights but with the aid of the Prime Deities Lixios managed to fend off the assault after taking heavy damage.

The Calamity

After the assault on Lixios, the conflict against the Betrayer Gods was rejoined. Most cities that sprung up during the Age of Arcanum were reduced to ash, leaving Lixios as the sole bastion of civilization. Historians estimate that no more than a third of the world population survived this war.   To end the war, Prime Deities sought to banish Tharizdun, the Chained Oblivion. During this battle Ioun took a near-fatal blow from which she is still recovering. However the banishment was successful and Tharizdun was vanquished. Eventually the kingdom of Ghor Dranas was defeated and the Betrayer Gods were banished once more.   In order to prevent a third divine war and seal away the Betrayer Gods for good, the Prime Deities retreated from the Material Plane and erected a barrier known as the Divine Gate, which would prevent any god from crossing into the mortal realms. This event is known as the Divergence.
