Mercury Outpost

Established in 2278 AD, the Mercury Outpost is the name used to refer to a low-security prison where fugitives and criminals are sent to die.

Purpose / Function

The Mercury Outpost is meant to serve as a death sentence for those who are sent to it. It is technically a prison, meant to house criminals until their death sentence.

History

After the mass exodus from Earth by Humans, the new colonies saw increased crime rates, murder rates, and trafficking among other things. The idea of a prison as close to the sun as possible on a planet as harsh as Mercury was considered something that would be terrifying enough to scare people out of committing crime. As it turned out, it did scare some, as crime rates across the solar system dropped. However, those who committed violent enough crimes still needed somewhere to go, and colonies were unwilling to take up space on their own planets or moons to make prisons. So, the Mercury Outpost was established at last. The Saturnian Prisons were established shortly after.   Upon the establishment of The Order of the Living God, ownership of the Mercury Outpost was given to The Trinity.
