Slinger
... forward, the advancing storm!
"There is tension in the moment that the Furies sunders the sky. With quivering thunder and streaking lightning, hailing stones plummet from above. The ground quakes with the heavy, tumultuous impact of sailing stones. This is no storm; this is a deadly battlefield. Where do you aim, Slinger?"
Before the advancement of complex projectile weapons, there was the sling. It's a simple ranged weapon made of a cloth or leather throng capable of launching a solid object at high velocities. While the sling was quite common, those who perfected the use of this weapon were called Slingers.
Examples of ancient Slingers arise from each Culture, making it one of the oldest hunting professions. Slingers were legendary for their accuracy, precision, and the distances at which they could assail their enemies. Lethal and mobile, the Slinger was commonly found on fields of battle or hunting grounds.

Becoming a Slinger
Slingers were drawn from those who could pass tests with the sling or thrown weapons. In preparation for these trials, young Slingers learned to play games, such as hitting clay targets. Accuracy and precision secured a Slinger's place.
Once the Slinger was accepted by the Tribe, they joined hunting parties or joined the Tribe's fighters as guards and peace-keepers. They were especially prized in combat, where the Slinger's ability to control the battlefield was pivotal.

Purpose & Progression
A Slinger spends their Life training with weaponry at range. While the sling is their namesake, Slingers often train with thrown weapons also. Adapting the use of the sling, a Slinger learns to throw stones, spears, and axes. The most efficient Slingers were those who could adapt and battle at any range.
Other Slingers find adaptive and creative uses for their weapons. The Striker is a mobile combatant that hits hard before an opponent can launch a counterattack. Spell-Slingers learn to wield offensive magic, enchanting their ammunition with powerful spells. A Wrangler is a specialized hunter in ambush tactics.

Historical Significance
Slings were used not just as a weapon but as a tool. Though fatality is its' primary function, these implements were used to judge distance, hunt game, or control a herd's movements.
Slingers took these skills and became practiced marksmen that earned the recognition of their Tribes. Stories and myths from various Cultures highlighted the importance of their martial role in securing resources and defending their land from beasts and invaders.

Advanced tools were developed to extend the range of slings and weapons. Wrist mounted spear launchers, sling-staves, and primitive sling fulcrums have been found in ancient reliquaries left behind by professional Slingers.
In later Ages, as the role of the sling was replaced by Archery, the Slingers' tradition never faded from the Cultures that revered their legacy. The techniques of accuracy and precision were adapted, leaving it's mark on History.
