The Hunter's occupation was often secondary for denizens of the Ice Age. Hunters were employed as wilderness guides or trackers sent to explore. Able to scout remote locations and return safely, Hunters could lead others to new, valuable locales. Their knowledge of the wilderness helped villages gather resources.

Hunting parties were commonly formed against threatening beasts while Hunting Festivals were a Cultural tradition that brought different Cultures together.

Becoming a Hunter

The Hunter begins by studying the world around them. With the guidance of a tutor, skills such as tracking, fishing, and knowledge of the land are passed down between Tribal members.
Eventually a training Hunter will go on their first few forays until they are comfortable with the process. Once a Hunter has claimed a territory of their own, they are considered a successful Hunter.

Skills & Expertise

Tracking

Hunters develop the hunting skills necessary to track down and find their intended prey. This includes learning the habits and patterns of their quarry and using those skills to pursue them. Whether it's the habits of a land beast or the cycles of local flora, Hunters learns how to interpret the signs.
With this ability to find any prey by reading the land, Hunters provided valuable information about the habits and habitats of wildlife. Legendary Hunters have been known to track beasts tirelessly across the tundra- even when the snow leaves no trace of their passage.

Tools & Materials

Hunter's Brand

Hunters develop a signature mark, which they use to identify themselves as a Hunter. This could be something, such as a personal talisman or even a tattoo. Other Hunters who see the Brand recognize it for what it is, and it can be modified to leave messages to others. This personal rune is usually personally significant to the Hunter but might belong to a group or Tribe.
When the Hunter applies a Brand, they become focused and vigilant. This illusory mark tracks the movements of their foes, making their pursuit of single individuals a dogged endeavor. Hunters become so intent on the object of their focus that they can shut out all distraction. With heightened senses, the Hunter's Brand provides clarity during the thrill of the hunt.

Purpose & Progression

The Hunter's ultimate game is simple: survival. Every skill they learn is meant to give them an edge against their competition. Those Hunters that secure land and game are invaluable to Cultures that depend upon their bounties, earning themselves strong titles.
Successful Hunters take on varied roles. A Game-Hunter is one who is known for a wide trophy collection. Slayers specialize in hunting certain prey items, such as Beasts or Giants. Wardens have been granted mystical powers from their connection to the land.

Author's Notes

This is 2/31 in the March of 31 Tales Challenge by Demongrey!

Hunters are among the oldest occupation in world history; thus, I thought it would be important to establish them in the Ice Age. Hunting and gathering were common methods of ancient societies to build civilizations. From animal domestication to agricultural innovation, Hunters provided the means for many Cultures to begin. It'll be interesting to explore them within the Arc Sagas setting!

As a Covert Class, there will most likely be guilds and organizations devoted to the Hunter Class and it's many iterations throughout the ages! More to come in the future; for now, enjoy this Draft!
