Arashi Katai

As of today, Arashi is one of the most powerful women in the city of Arbor. Her recipe—invention, really—has revolutionized the city in ways even she hadn't imagined. She could easily hang up her hat and rest on her laurels, so to speak, but she remains driven, always searching for ways to refine her creation and extract more potential from Star Light than the day before.
  What complicates matters, however, is her relationship with alcohol. Arashi is a raging alcoholic, and half the time when her assistants believe she’s working on an improvement to Star Light, she’s actually distilling highly refined liquor instead.

Arashi has always been determined to escape poverty and understands all too well what it means to live at the bottom. Her immense success hasn’t changed that mindset; instead, it’s left her uncertain, as if she doesn’t know what to do now that she’s “won.” She pursues progress like someone trying to escape a sinking ship—finding comfort only in the bottom of a bottle.
  That said, Arashi is fierce. She can rally the Pipemen into a frenzy when needed. She knows her worth, and the Pipemen owe her dearly. If she comes to collect, you’d best have her payment ready.
 

Background

Arashi grew up dirt poor, like so many in the @Twigs. From a young age, she worked in whatever factory would take her, moving from job to job until she aged out of crawling through narrow gaps to unclog machines.
  The expectation was simple: she would take up the same kind of work her parents had done before they died. But Arashi rejected that fate. She realized she valued her freedom, and in her mind, working for someone else—even for pay—was just slavery by another name.
 

Rumors

It’s said that Arashi wasn’t always so reliant on alcohol. Something happened—something traumatic—but no one knows what. She’s never spoken of it, and asking her directly is a good way to get yelled at… or shot, depending on her mood.
 

Relationships

Arashi isn’t in a committed relationship, though it’s rumored she’s taken her assistant to bed more than once. Nothing more serious has come of it.
 

Allegiance

Arashi has cultivated a strong alliance with the leaders of The Gilded, always ensuring she stays on their good side.

Arashi is exceptionally clever when sober and a master alchemist. Just be careful—whatever she’s brewing might end up being booze instead of something useful.
