    The Arcane Spark
    Era beginning/end

The moment when an enormous Gem of Arcana hurtling through the Astral Seas came into contact with the husk of an ancient, primordial deity. The force of this magical contact was like a flint to stone and its spark ignited the flame of life, creating Ulandra, Entity of Life.

    Creation of the Material Plane
    Geological / environmental event

After creating the Elemental Planes, Ulandra used the elements of fire, water, earth, and air like a palette of paints.  With these elements, Ulandra created the Material Plane, including all of its geographic features.  This event marked the end of the Post-Arcane Spark era and ushered in the Era of First Creation.

First Creation

10000 AC 20000 AC

The First Creation era was the period when Ulandra, Entity of Life first created life on the Material Plane. This period was marked by extremes. Life was created in great abundance, but the creatures of this period lived short brutal lives as Ulandra failed to imbue them with the necessities to survive on the Material Plane. It was during this period that Ulandra created Leylines and the Fey Wilds in an attempt to solve the challenges created by her first creations.

    Cyclical Extinctions
    Disaster / Destruction

For a millenia Ulandra, Entity of Life continuously created creatures and plants that lived short, violent lives and experienced constant small-scale extinction events time and time again. The Material Plane was inhospitable and the creatures were ill-suited to survive. However, driven by an insatiable need to create and unable to understand the strife created by constant extinction-level events, Ulandra continued its efforts until the Calamitous Collapse.

    Calamitous Collapse
    Extinction

The Calamitous Collapse was a mass extinction event. Ulandra, Entity of Life witnessed the instantaneous death of all remaining life on the Material Plane after it unintentionally channeled a powerful wave of arcane force. It served as the first turning point in Ulandra's efforts to create life and led to the creation of magical Leylines to bolster the hardiness of its creation against future extinction events.

With the creation of Leylines, the creatures that Ulandra, Entity of Life brought into existence were finally able to survive on the Material Plane.  Life persisted longer than ever before, but Ulandra did not know when to stop creating and created a world filled to the brim with creatures.  Inevitably, conflict broke out over the resources that remained, resulting in conflict and destruction.

    Creation of Magical Leylines
    Metaphysical / Paranormal event

Ulandra, Entity of Life weaved some of the magic of its Gem of Arcana into the very fabric of the plane itself and imbued the world with Leylines connected by and channeled through crystalline structures innate to the ancient, primordial deity upon which the Material Plane was created. Like wind currents bringing much needed rain clouds, these Leylines brought arcane power capable of sustaining the life that Ulandra created and gave them wonderful powers and abilities.

    The Second Sentient Expanse
    Disaster / Destruction

The creation of the Fey Wilds, which was meant to solve the problems created by the First Sentient Expanse, only served to compound the problem. The Second Sentient Expanse led to both the Material Plane and Fey Wilds filling to the brim with the life on both locked in an inevitable, seemlingly unending struggle.

Balanced Creation

20000 AC 25000 AC

The Era of Balanced Creation began following the creation of Ulogot, Entity of Death. Although Ulogot was meant to provide balance by creating a natural end to life, eventually its domain, the Shadowfell began to overflow with souls. Fortunately, the arrival of Exult, the Platinum Greatwyrm helped the entities bring empathy and purpose into their creation. This ultimately resulted in the creation of the other Gods and Goddesses and the start of a new era.

    Creation of Ulogot
    Celestial / Cosmic

Ulandra, Entity of Life pragmatically realized life needed limits and divided its Gem of Arcana into two: one containing positive magical energy and the second containing negative magical energy. From this second Gem of Arcana, Ulogot came into existence. As Ulandra created natural beginnings, Ulogot provided a natural end.

    Creation of the Shadowfell
    Geological / environmental event

Ulogot, Entity of Death created a new reflection of the Material Plane from a third husk pulled from the Astral Seas.  This Plane, known as the Shadowfell, served as a place for the sentience of the creatures reaped from Ulandra, Entity of Life's world to be kept.

    The Restless Terror
    Disaster / Destruction

With the creation of the Shadowfell by Ulogot, Entity of Death, balance was brought to the first two planes.  However, the Shadowfell was soon filled to the brim with the souls of the dead, which began to spill over into the other Planes.  Hopelessness pervaded the planes as creatures of all kinds were terrorized by the restless souls of the dead and realized there was no purpose to the life they had:  they were just souls in borrowed vessels waiting to be stored in an ever more crowded jar.  Terror and malaise in equal measure was pervasive and once more the Planes crept towards the verge of annihilation.

Arrival of Exult, the Platinum Greatwyrm, and Dragons
    Population Migration / Travel

The Entities, so beyond the capacity to emphathize for the plight of its creatures and souls, were unprepared to address the Restless Terror.  As their world began to falter, Exult, the Platinum Greatwyrm came to the Material Plane from across the Astral Seas.  Exult was seeking a new home for its creatures after its previous hom was consumed in the wars between the The Illithid Empire and an uprising of their formerly enslaved Githyanki and Githzerai.  The creatures following Exult were Metallic Dragons made in its image, but created out of the different metals of their old world.  Exult had learned how to connect with its creation because it saw itself in them.  Exult offered to provide Ulandra and Ulogot with the solution to their dying world in exchange for a new home on the Material Plane for dragonkind.  The Entities agreed.

    Creation of Gem Dragons
    Life, Birth

Exult, the Platinum Greatwyrm shared what it had learned about connecting to its creations through a demonstration. Using the gems that channeled the world's magical Leylines, it created new types of dragons known as Gem Dragons. Like the Metallic Dragons, these dragons were created in Exult's image and thus saw a greater purpose in Exult's existence and teachings.

    Creation of the Deities
    Celestial / Cosmic

As greater Entities, Ulandra, Entity of Life and Ulogot, Entity of Death were unable to create separate creatures in their image, which was why their world was so varied - nothing could encapsulate their likeness. However, they were able to once again split their Gem of Arcana into smaller gems, which, in turn, birthed lesser deities known as Gods and Goddesses. With the help of Exult, the Platinum Greatwyrm, the Entities imbued each Gem of Arcana for the deities with a different concept: Light (Ludra), Knowledge (Suth), Nature (Fethreen), Tempest (Everendith), and War (Borthak). Thus began a new era.

After Deities

25000 AC 35000 AC

The creation of the Gods and Goddesses ushered in a new era for the creations occupying the Material Plane, Fey Wilds, and Shadowfell. The Gods and Goddesses embodied the ideals with which they were imbued and began to create Divine Domains dedicated to these concepts. While these Gods and Goddesses had an immediately positive impact through their ability to connect with creatures on the Material Plane, they also were more susceptible to the flaws of mortals, which led to some of the most devastating conflicts in the Material Plane's history.

    Establishment of the Divine Domains
    Religious event

When the Gods and Goddesses were created, they immediately began establishing planar spheres, know as Divine Domains, to serve as the ultimate embodiment of their ideals. Ludra, Goddess of Light, created the Divine Domain of Light. Suth, God of Knowledge, created the Divine Domain of Knowledge. Fethreen, God of Nature, created the Divine Domain of Nature. Everendith, Goddess of Tempest, created the Divine Domain of Tempest. Borthak, Goddess of War, created the Divine Domain of War. The creatures of the Material Plane took notce and found not only purpose and solace in a life of following these ideals, but also found a meaningful death within the Divine Domains of these Gods and Goddesses. Rather than keeping all the souls in its domain, Ulogot, Entity of Death began to guide the souls across chains throughout the Shadowfell to the domains of the other Gods and Goddesses.

Start of the First God War
    Military: War

For a time, the Entities, Gods, and Goddesses worked together to build up the Material Plane, Fey Wilds, and Shadowfell. However, the proximity of the Gods and Goddesses to their creation meant they were also more susceptible to the flaws of mortals. As they observed the growth of the other domains, the Gods and Goddesses began to covet one another's Gems of Arcana. An all-out war known as the The First God War commenced.

    Military action

Although the Entities were not susceptible to the whims of mortals at first, the divine greed of the Gods and Goddesses slowly corrupted Ulandra, Entity of Life and Ulogot, Entity of Death.  As the war went on, the Entities began to view one another not as two sides of the same coin, but instead as rivals.

    Leth's Ascension
    Celestial / Cosmic

The Fey Wilds did not have a direct relationship to any of the Gods and Goddesses, although many denizens still worshipped Ulandra, Entity of Life.  Among them, a Fey known as Leth saw opportunity in the chaos of conflict.  Through trickery and deception, he managed to ascend to godhood by acquiring a tiny part of each of the Gem of Arcana and combined them to create his own.  This was the birth of Leth, God of Trickery and the establishment of the Trickery Domain.

    Departure of Exult
    Population Migration / Travel

Exult, the Platinum Greatwyrm, fearing the end of its creation, led those dragons who wished to flee the conflict back into the Astral Seas in search of a new home. Those dragons who remained either hoped to leverage the conflict in their favor or planned to defend the continent that had become their home in hopes that Exult would one day return.

    Emergence of Chaos
    Plague / Epidemic

The destruction wrought by the conflict, coupled with the raw arcane power the Entities, Gods, and Goddesses deployed against each others' forces, unleashed a new element: Chaos, a powerful and dangerous force that thrived in the absence of order. Chaos was not only capable of corrupting mortals into twisted fiends, it had the ability to create demonic forces fueled by wicked desires to consume the Planes.

    Deific Sealing
    Celestial / Cosmic

To avert the threat of complete annihiliation by Chaos, the Gods, Goddesses, and Entities came together and were determined to seal away their greed. Each one sealed away their greed in a part of their body: Ulogot in its head, Ulandra in its body, Suth in her right leg, Ludra in his left leg, Fethreen in his right foot, Everendith in her left foot, Brothak in her left arm, and Leth in his right arm (in doing so, legitimizing his ascension).

    Start of the Cataclysm
    Military: War

Unfortunately, despite the best efforts of the Entities, Gods, and Goddesses to contain their greed, a new divine war broke out. Ulogot, Entity of Death betrayed the other Entities, Gods, and Goddesses earning it the title of The Great Betrayer. Ulogot somehow managed to get ahold of nearly every Gem of Arcana of the Gods and Goddesses. However, it was unable to get the gems of Ulandra and Leth, thanks to the duplicity of Leth. During this conflict all the other Gods and Goddesses aligned themselves with Ulandra, Entity of Life.

    Leth's Gambit
    Military: Battle

Ulandra, Entity of Life and the other Gods and Goddesses were on the brink of defeat. In an effort to turn the tides of the war, they convinced Leth to make one final gambit on their behalf. Leth, God of Trickery was one of the few Gods to retain his Gem of Arcana, and by extension his full power, due to his duplicitous activities at the beginning of the war. Around the mid-point of the conflict, Leth mounted a daring assualt on an extra-planar vault to recover the Gems of Arcana of the other Gods and Goddesses. The assault came at great cost: countless souls were killed in the near-suicidal mission, thus bolstering the forces of Ulogot, Entity of Death. However, Leth was able to defeat a powerful enemy champion and was able to successfully recover the Gems of Arcana.  Leth's Gambit is considered one of the great turning points of The Cataclysm.

    Creation of the Chromatic Dragons
    Life, Birth

    End of the Cataclysm
    Military: War

Eventually, Ulandra, Entity of Life and the other Gods and Goddesses managed to defeat Ulogot, Entity of Death. Ulogot was stripped of its body and sealed away in a Storm Giant's skull, chianed to the Shadowfell.  The remaining Gods, Goddesses, and Entity were not seen since, the Portal Network was deactivated, and the worlds eventually began to heal from the scars of war.

After Cataclysm

35001 AC and beyond

Following the end of the Cataclysm, the Entities, Gods, and Goddesses disappeared from the Material Plane and the world started to recover from the divine conflict.  This is the modern era of Aravantia.
