The Cloud Hopper training skiff
This is a small, compact open vessel designed for use in teaching young Sky Gnome. It is often given as a rite of passage after the child has mastered the basics of air currents and knot-tying. It is a simple sailboat, usually called a skiff or dinghy.
- Hull: it is a light, bowl-shaped hull made almost entirely from lightweight, buoyant Liftwood. It is shallow and stable, with a rounded bottom to make it aerodynamic.
- Size: it is only large enough to comfortably seat one sky gnome or two very young apprentices, and measures about 3 ft long.
- Propulsion: a large, flexible sail catches the horizontal Trade Winds and is steered by rear air-rudders.
- Safety: the open cockpit features a seat for the pilot (small), or 2 if they are Tiny.
