Shevek Rulag, Ansible Inventor
Shevek Rulag
He was born in the capital city of Avalar, the Aetherian capital. Soon after he was born, they discovered that he was a throwback. He had to eat instead of getting nourishment from the cosmic rays, needed more sleep, and was emotional. They put up with his emotional outbursts for a will because he was a genius, but they considered him unstable, and volatile.
While working on the moon, he became friends with some Anarchist dissidents. When this was discovered, he was exiled from the moon and after he finished his Ansible Communicator project they sent him to one of the Indegene reservations. They allowed him to keep working but put certain restrictions on him--like not working on anything dangerous. During his exile, he was banned from the Moon and space travel in general, so he joined the Starfarers cause.
Shevek created the Ansible communicator. He is a hero to some, a scientist, and a villain to others. He is a historical figure that made FTL communication possible.
Many Indegenes/Starfarers look up to him for his contributions to society, which allowed the movement to succeed. The Aetherian Science committee despises him, as a throwback, and one that doesn't deserve to be smarter than many of them. He is famous for his genius, and inventions despite his "handicaps."
The Ansible Project turned him into a world figure. He believes that he was meant for greater things. Shevek says ideas come into his head, that must be built.
One story that is false is that he is volatile and unstable, he is more emotional than the Aetherians but less than the Indigenes. He isn't as evolved as the Aetherians but is a little more than the Starfarers. Some believe that he is being influenced by an Ascended being or a God.

His patron helped him ascend when his life was near its end after he helped the Starfarers on their path. That was many years in the making. He was 240 years old when he ascended.

Sheven was devastated when he was denounced as a throwback and sent to a reserve. His trainers considered him to be a throwback, except for his Patron.
Intellectual Characteristics
Sheven has a twin named Illion Anikos, but they were born at different times because Illion was born prematurely. They have telepathy and are linked with quantum entanglement which doesn't seem to have a range limit. Both have very high IQs, Shevek has a 200+, and Illion has a 300+. With this link, they can go into a "daydream" and collaborate on projects. This VR-like 3D environment allows them to model ideas.

His parents are long dead, they never had a relationship because of the society's traditions. He had one partner before he left the capital and they had children, but he had no relationship with them either.
When he went to the reserve, he met an Indegene, and they had children. They aren't controlled by the genetic AI, so they did have a real relationship. It was blissful to them.
His wife's name was Kyla Emari, she died 150 years after the Diaspora. They had triplets--2 boys, and a girl, triplets; still alive.
Living 200 years after their father "died." They are proud of their father, and he's proud of them.
