Diaspora from the Plane of Water
When the Rift opened from the Plane of Water, many species were pulled through. At first, they were bunched together in their shock, but after a few days, they separated and began to spread out to find new territories for themselves.
This Diaspora took many years. Luckily, there were some open areas that no one had claimed for one reason or another. Others had to be fought over.
One of the species that was removed is a specialized species called the Coral Weavers, a tiny, symbiotic polyps that build intricate living structures in the Plane of Water. They struggled for years to find suitable host organisms or conditions in Aquatica. Many perished, but a resilient few found symbiotic relationships with Aquatica's native anemones and sponges, slowly beginning to form new, but different, coral-like colonies.
They are not individual creatures in the traditional sense, but rather a collective: microscopic, highly specialized polyps that, in their native realm, secreted a unique, hyper-efficient calciferous matrix, forming vast, intricate structures that were both habitat and communal organism. They were the architects of living mountains, nurturing entire ecosystems within their crystalline growths.
When the dimensional rift tore them from their home, the vast majority of Coral Weavers perished from the sudden change in pressure, salinity, and the lack of their native, nutrient-rich "hydro-lumina," a type of planktonic energy their polyps directly absorbed--was catastrophic. Only a tiny fraction, those inhabiting the very periphery of the rift's pull and with slightly more robust constitutions, survived the journey to Aquatica,
Their adaptation was not a simple change, but a profound evolutionary shift that gave rise to the new symbiotic Weavers of Aquatica, or Corallum Mutatum. They are a testament to the resilience of life. They may not build the colossal, gleaming cities of their ancestors, but their presence is a quiet, vital force in Aquatica's ecosystems, reinforcing structures, enhancing bioluminescence, and subtly weaving the fabric of a new, unexpected marine world.
