Batfolk
This is a small species of animalfolk; they include bats of all types and sizes. Some are carnivores, others are frugivores. They took longer to evolve than most other animalfolk. Some believe that it is because they didn't have opposable thumbs to begin with, but no one knows for sure if this was the reason.
Basic Information
Anatomy
They evolved a more humanoid form than many animalfolk; some also think they are a bit dull or slow-thinking. Look like humanoid bats with large ears and a short muzzle; some have tails.
Genetics and Reproduction
This varies by tribe; some are polyamorous, while others have lifemates. They rarely have more than one pup at a time, rarely twins. Pups can fly days after they are born, but don't wean for 2-4 months. Most batfolk can have pups twice a year, but they can also delay the pregnancy for a better time.
Growth Rate & Stages
They reach their adult size quickly, afterwards, their growth slows.
Ecology and Habitats
They will live anywhere that they have safe roosting sites. The most common areas are in tall trees, rock crevices, the upper levels of buildings, and caves; a rare few will also live in a ground burrow.
Dietary Needs and Habits
They come in various sizes: micro and mega; size doesn't necessarily denote their diet, although the largest are usually frugivores. Micro-bats are mostly carnivores, but some also eat fruit or nectar. They have a range of dietary habits: insects, birds, fish, and small mammals. blood, fruit, pollen, or nectar.
Biological Cycle
In temperate areas, they will migrate to warmer zones or hibernate.
Behaviour
Bats are social creatures and live in large colonies, although some live in small family groups or are solitary.
