Naga

Nagas are one of two snake-like races native to Solitudinem. They are generally peaceful, content to spend their days basking in the sun and enjoying the beauty of their desert homes. Their skin can be almost any color, and they can have between one and three sets of arms. A naga's body most often consists of a human head, torso and arms, and then a serpentine tail that forms most of their length. The only deviations will come from birth defects or accidents that result in the loss of a limb. Their luck is comparable to those of Halflings.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Nagas are usually born with the head, arms, and torso of a human, and the tail of a snake, which will compose most of their body's length. They can have one, two, or even three sets of arms, all of which are usually fully functional unless in the event of a birth defect or accident. The color of their skin usually matches the color of their tails, and so, nagas can be nearly any color. Regardless of the snakes they most closely resemble, all nagas are venomous, though they can generally control when they release their venom better than their serpent ancestors can. Their sizes can range wildly, but most tend to "stand" at the same height as humans.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Although nagas can eat a wide variety of food, they have primarily evolved to eat meat.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Nagas are charismatic and intelligent (+2 Charisma, +1 Intelligence). They possess dark vision, and can see for 60 feet in dim light as if it were bright, and in darkness as if it were dim light. However, they are unable to discern colors in this form and only see in shades of grey. They are born knowing the Poison Spray cantrip, and can cast Animal Friendship, but only on snakes. More mature nagas can also cast Suggestion, but need a long rest before they can cast it again. Their knack for magic makes them resistant to it, and have advantage on saving throws against magic spells and other magical effects. They are also completely immune to poison. Nagas are also lucky.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

It is common for Nagas to be named after snakes.

Beauty Ideals

The desert sun is harsh and can do a lot of damage to skin and scales alike, so a naga who has smooth, soft skin and sales with no to minimal signs of damage is seen as very beautiful.

Common Etiquette Rules

Life in the desert is hard, and so serpentine culture has evolved around the importance of the group. Serpentine villages often operate as extended families, as reflected in certain language cues. For example, young ones are raised to respect their elders, so rather than call people older than them by their first names or with honorifics like "sir," they may instead refer to adults as "aunt" or "uncle," and elders as "grandma" or "grandpa." Likewise, elders may refer to young nagas as "ibn" ("child" or "kid") or "binin" ("children" or "kids"). Very old nagas may call anyone who isn't an elder ibn, and this is not seen as offensive.

Common Dress Code

Although clothing to nagas does serve the purpose of keeping the harsh sun off their skin, naga fashion is very fashion over function.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

Nagas do not object to relationships with other sapient species. Because they are so long-lived, however, some caution falling in love with humans or other races who, comparatively, don't live as long.
