Cyborg
Cyborgs are fairly common in the world of Aquaria. Life on the sea can be dangerous, and accidents happen. People who have suffered from terrible accidents, were born with missing or incomplete limbs, or who simply want an upgrade to their basic bodies may seek out help on Artificer Island. Here, patients are given enhancements, sometimes detachable, sometimes surgically attached to the body permanently. There are two primary materials used for limb replacements:
Metal Replacements
Typically, these enhancements are strong and often vastly superior to the limbs they lost or would have had. They are very versatile and can easily be upgraded with weapon attachments. However, they do suffer from drawbacks. Saltwater and salty wind are terrible for metal enhancements, and can accelerate the rusting process. This is bad for sailors, especially those who are careless with maintenance. Additionally, like with all metals, these limbs are excellent conductors, so they are very dangerous in stormy weather or if used too close to open flames or extreme cold.
Wooden Replacements
These enhancements are the least expensive to obtain, and are, for a lack of better words, quite boring. They are usually reserved for leg replacements, especially the knee and below, as they can be hard to articulate and impossible to wire due to risk of fire in the off chance of a malfunction. If the wood is untreated, it can also swell and warp when exposed to saltwater and salty air. Additionally, unless it is made of the special wood from Fire Mountain, it may catch fire when exposed to open flame.
