Purpose / Function

Angkor Wat was created by the decree of Khmer King Suryavarman to become the capital of the Yasodharapura to become the states temple. It's currently a religious site for Buddhist and Hindus for their pilgrimages.

Alterations

After Angkor Wats construction the temple was eventually converted into a Bhuddhist temple. There are active restoration effects that are ongoing to this day.

Angkor Wat currently has no active defenses constructed.

History

Angkor Wat started construction in 1122 and completed its construction in 1150. Upon the completion of it's construction Angkor Wat was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu and made the kings state temple in the city capital. In 1117 the temple was sacked by Chams. The temple was restored under the guidance of Jayavarman VII. The temple was then converted into a Buddhist temple after Jayavarman VII was convinced to convert by his wife Indradevi.

Angkor Wat eventually fell into neglect around the 16th century, but it was never completely abandoned unlike other Angkor temples. The temple is still vosoted to this day by locals, Buddhist, Hindus, and archeologist.

Tourism

Angkor Wat is visited quite frequently by tourist as part of may cultural history tours. Unlike other temples Angkor Wat is still an active temple so it has multiple Buddhist and Hindus visit for enlightenment.
