Dragon Hybrid

When you are born with dragon ancestry, that usually indicates the dragon was a shapeshifter. The dragon might have had the multiform ability, possessing a human form as one of his guises, or he might have been a powerful dragon mage with transformation spells. There is also the possibility of a shape-shifting human breeding with a dragon, but no cases have been recorded. Whatever the case, once a dragon, always a dragon. Most people with dragon ancestry have no abilities or modifications to show for it. Every now and again, the dragon blood runs more true and the draconic heritage will express itself more obviously.

When creating the character, only roll once on the following chart. The result is permanent and set, and the character will not move to higher expressions thereafter. Expression is random. A character might be a first generation hybrid and have only incidental expression, or a tenth generation twice-removed hybrid and receive full expression. It is very random.
D100 Expression Physical Advantages Disadvantages   01-60 Incidental Expression Green hair 5% Lizard eyes 5% Talons 5% Discriminating Smell Resist—Caustic Gas Alliance—Dragons Roots—Draconic   61-90 Limited Expression 10% each Green hair Lizard eyes Talons Vestigial tails Vestigial wings Resist—Fire Resist—Poison Superiority complex 25%   91-99   Strong Expression   Character’s ethereal body is a dragon, not a man 25% Character casts dragon-shaped shadow 25% Polychromial Eyes—one lizard eye, and one human eye 25%   Dark Sight 50% Hypnotic Eyes Assume Dragon Form 1/Week, 10 Minutes Duration 25% Piercing Gaze

100 Full Expression Character’s ethereal body and shadow are dragon shaped Multiform— dragon form and human form, at will and as needed Deep Sight Hoarding—Treasure 50% Obsession—Gold 50%

Advantages and Disadvantages

These are cumulative per level. So, for example, a full expression of disadvantages would include: arrogance 25%, hoarding—treasure 50%, obsession—gold 50%, roots—draconic, and superiority complex 25%. The character may buy off disadvantages, each individually, at a cost of one advantage of the same level or higher. So, for one example, the character could buy off the obsession—gold disadvantage by sacrificing his deep sight (higher level) or hypnotic gaze (same level).

Social

Because dragons are universally feared, people tend to regard dragon hybrids suspiciously. Most of them pass for humans easily, so this usually is not an issue. True dragons will recognize the dragon-born as one of their own—the character may look convincingly human, but on a substantive level they are dragons. Once a dragon, always a dragon.

Variations

Characters with wyvern ancestry are functionally also dragon-born. Those with sea serpent ancestry won’t have fire resistance, but will probably have the power to hold their breath for an extended period, and swim at great rates. Have fun and be creative with the options.
