Divine Hierarchy III--Humans to Elementals

Humans

Prateans

Called the First Humans, or the Mighty Men of Old, these were an elder race of humans, gifted in all abilities, and blessed with extended life-spans. These now extinct peoples could live many hundreds of years, and well proportioned at around 7 1/2’ tall. They walked with gods and demigods, and lived in an age of wonder before the Great Deluge.

Immortals

Mortals who have defeated mortality and may live forever.

Faithful

Mortals born into the Faith, or adopted into it later in life. Clerics are those who may intercede with Ahiom and have assumed a religious mission in life. Laymen are all other Faithful and may send their prayers to the saints indirectly through clerics, their divine intercessors..

Infidels

Mortals raised in any religion besides the Faith, such as Shiram, Imerkanian, and so forth.

Heretics

Mortals who have been led astray from the orthodox Faith, and believe incorrect liturgy. If turned over to the secular authorities, heretics can be burned to death.

Apostates

Mortals who once believed, but now deny the Faith. This includes excommunicates who have not repented and been taken back in the arms of the Church. They may be killed outright and may not be buried in Hallowed Ground.

Faeries

The Faerie pantheon is unique, because it is many things at once. First, it is made of the so-called high, trooping, or noble elves. Second, it is synonomous with the Old Faith, or the Aorlisian pre-Faith religion. As a group, these beings are called Seelie, or Unseelie if considered hostile or evil. The good/evil distinction actually makes little sense, because all the Seelie are proud, petty, cruel, and amoral. There are four Seelie courts, based on the four seasons (Summer, Winter, etc.), and they each come into dominance with the changing of the year.

Summer Court

Highest of the Seelie courts, which includes the Spring Court, it is often at odds with the Unseelie Court. The king effectively is a god, and his queen and their officers are demigods.

  • Princess Consort—Priamelle the Prideful
  • Champion—Astorian the Vengeful

  • Hunter—Bracken Fire Spear
  • Harper—Oelfett March
  •

    Winter Court

Highest of the Unseelie courts, which includes the Fall Court, it is often at odds with the Seelie Court. The queen is effectively a god, and her consort and officers are demigods.
  • Winter Queen—Cithlos, Mistress of Tears, Snow Queen, Mother of Woe
  • Prince Consort—Wildorf Frost
  • Champion—Dendolf Ice Lance
  • Sorcerer—Fayetta Lady of the Lake, Maid of Winter and Death
  • Fool—Dendolf the Fair

  • Princess Consort—Arathielle Glorious
  • Champion—Oeldan Knight of Owls

    Solitary Faeries

There are also tutelary and solitary faeries. They are not affiliated with the Seelie Courts, and apart from others. Some live in Faerie, and some on Aarthus

    Elementals

Elementals are the anthropomorphized spirits or daemons of the universe’s four primary elements, air, earth, fire, and water. Elementals each usually have three forms, assumeably at will: a raw elemental form, a quasi-human form, and a human form. In their human forms, they have mated with mortals and create hybrid elementals. Elementals are reported to have no souls of their own, and can only earn one by taking human shape and marrying a human. This union locks the elemental into their material, human form, and grants the human spouse extended longevity.

    Air/Zephyr (Male)/Sylph (Female)

These possess three forms: an invisible mass of air; a tiny, faerie-like human with wings; or, as a course, rough, but strong human. They have flight (except in human form) and invisibility. Turbulent air conditions such as severe storms or tornados have rejuvenated or heal them. Zephyr/Human Hybrids are physically strong, if somewhat coarse looking, but otherwise human in all ways. They present an affinity for weather and elemental magik.

    • *Thimb the Gloam—Fog, Gas, Smoke

    Earth Elementals/Gnome (Male)/Gnomide (Female)

These possess three forms—they can manifest as an elemental mass, such as a pile of dirt or rocks; as diminutive, dwarfish humanoids; and as fairly convincing humans. They may pass through rock and earth, walls, and soil, as if it were air, and are rejuvenated or healed by spending time within or against rock/earth. Half-gnomes are short but stout, and they have a well-developed geomantic sense, and are good at finding things buried in the earth. Plus, when they sleep on the ground or in a cave, that elevates their healing levels. They often have a materialistic bend to their personalities.

    Fire Elementals/Salamanders/Fire Newts

These are traditional fire elementals, male or female, although the female variety is very rare. They have three forms: a column or wall of living flame; a salamander lizard that lives within flame; or long, lean but convincing humans. They are quick to anger and take offense easily. They are immune to fire, and exposure to fire or great heat revives or heals them. Fire elemental/human hybrids are slender, light-framed people with a temper that flares up easily, and resistance to flame or radiant heat injury.

    Water Elementals/Undines

They may move through water as others move through air, and breathe underwater, and immersion rejuvenates or even heals them. Undine/Human hybrids are always female. For them, water, bathing, or immersion has a healing effect. They are exceptional swimmers, and these hybrids can hold their breath for much longer than standard humans.
