Faery Hybrid

Legends hold that once many Faeries lived on Aarthus, but those days are long forgotten and the Faeries have died out or returned to their otherworldly realm of Faerie. The plane of Faerie exists on a more subtle material plane, or more specifically one with a higher vibrational frequency, but its denizens may still use Faerie Circles to visit Aarthus. While the reasoning isn’t clear, Faeries were obsessed with human reproduction and creating human/faery hybrids. Most people with faery ancestry have no abilities or traits to show for it. Every now and again, the old faerie blood manifests, for good or ill. An elf/human raised in Faerie grows up as a full elf, so only on Aarthus will one find partial elves or humans with elfin traits. The human parents dictate the hybrid’s base appearance. These hybrids have free will and may choose to be good or evil. Their Faerie blood may tempt them to be inscrutable, amoral, superior, arrogant, vindictive, or cruel (all traditional faire traits), but the hybrid has the power to deny his nature.

Expression

Only roll once on the following chart when the character is created. The result is permanent and set, and the character will not move to higher expressions thereafter. Expression is random. A character might be a first generation hybrid and have only incidental expression, or a 10th generation twice-removed hybrid and have full expression. It is very random.

Advantages and Disadvantages

These are cumulative per level. So, for example, a full expression of disadvantages would include: stigmatized—full Faeries & humans, alien aspect, arrogant, outsider, infertility—moderate, amoral, cruelty, and racial superiority. The character may buy off disadvantages, each individually, at a cost of one advantage of the same expression level or higher. So, for one example, the character could buy off the outsider disadvantage by sacrificing the glorious voice advantage.

Social

A known hybrid elf will always be an “other” to humans, and full faeries will treat the hybrid with disdain, as less than an elf or a sort of sub-elf caste. Some exceptional hybrid elves have conquered this stigma and risen to positions of power among the Faerie. Hybrid elves raised in Faerie are effectively full elves.
