Meroskias

Meroskias is the name of the dark and dreary plane of shadow that is the destination of all immoral souls, as believed by both the Beastfolk and the Awakened of Yorth  Similar to the paradise realm that is Elysium, the Awakened people heard of this realm soon after the First Day and their interactions with the Beastfolk, especially after first doing battle with them. Various Beastfolk described a realm of perpetual night (or, at best, gloaming) and no color, existing only in grayscale, always a bit too hot or too cold for comfort. What little grew and lived there provided just enough substance to sustain life, if life it could really be called.    Though rumors exist that creatures native to this realm exist, the true purpose of Meroskias is as the destination for the souls of the immoral. Those who die in sin, shame, malice, or otherwise outside of the moral concept of "good" as defined in their cultures wind up wandering the badlands of Meroskias for eternity, never to come into contact with another soul again, except in fleeting glances of sorrowful nostalgia.    That this realm exists cannot be denied, as those who have been brought back to life on Yorth through resurrection magic have often described this place and its inherent misery, whether they be Beastfolk or Awakened. Various cultures claim that malevolent spirits or even the powerful enemies of the gods themselves dwell there. Rumors also exist that powerful users of magic have even entered that realm and returned, though anyone who goes there intentionally is surely a fool.   Citizens of The Verum Imperium believe that Meroskias, like Elysium, is a real place that exists only as the construct of collective delusion, with anyone winding up there doing so out of the weakness of their own wills.
