At the Cusp of Sunrise, an exclusive club in the isolated island city of Cauldron, the adventuring group known as Not By Choice prepares for the second of the two invitations delivered by the mysterious courier, Celeste. The first was a dinner engagement with Eligos, Sage of Kedesh, who had asked the party to go undercover in that city's upcoming Champion's Games in order to ferret out the evil intentions of the Arena Master, Loris Raknian. The host for this engagement remains unknown, even as the party waits in the foyer to be appraised by the club's maitre'd, who is troubling the clockwork rider Harrov over his companion Sauros. The situation is defused by the intervention of the club's owner, Ophelia Knowlern, who shows them around. After hobnobbing with some local dignitaries and playing games of chance, the party is taken by Ophelia to meet their host.
