Strange Aeons / In Search of Sanity pt. 19 / Eire the 7th through the 8th, 3592 CE / 1-21-20
General Summary
Hemlock, Yew, and Esp have returned to the sanctuary, only to discover the body of Denman Winepress, apparently murdered by having his throat slit while on guard. They quickly discover that he is not the only victim, as it turns out Dunston (or is it Dudley?), one of the in-mates guarding the other end of the barricade was hit over the head and just had time to see a fleeing apostle, presumably Julian Rivers, before he blacked out. Concerned that it was an inside job, the party must nonetheless leave the investigation for the time being to return with Brendan Liebkin's shadow lantern. They find Haskell still in position guarding the darkened room, and when they light the lantern, Denis Liebkin's true form as an attic whisperer is revealed. The lantern appears to dispel the curse, and after asking Esp to pass a final message to his brother, Denis disappears in a flash of light. With the unnatural darkness dispelled, the room is revealed to be a store room for the asylum's orderlies. The next room is a looted staff office, where the party does find a confiscated copy of the bawdy song "30 Knights of Dromidus." Using her object reading ability, Esp senses that it appears to have been secretly passed to the patient Dudley from an older gentleman, perhaps his father. They then find what appears to be the asylum's apothecary dispensary, where they discover the bodies of three of the apostles who appear to have overdosed while looting the stores. Two are dead but one clings to life. Determined to keep him alive for questioning, the party holes up in the room and rests.
