Aleria Campaign / The Seekers / The Frozen Oath pt. 4 / 3588 CE (3/27/19)

Having rested without interruption, the party makes their way cautiously from the constellation chamber in the ancient frost giant temple. They search the room across the hall, discovering it is being used as a barracks. Vercingetorix notes that that though there are giant-sized bedrolls scattered about, the occupation seems recent. At the far end of the room, a frost giant sleeps. Arturo, Dorzha, and Vercingetorix decide it is best to strike the giant down quickly in his sleep. However, when Arturo casts a spell to paralyze the frost giant, he wakes, and Arturo is struck with a debilitating curse. A fight breaks out, but peace is restored when the giant, named Fafnir, offers information in exchange for allowing him to escape the temple. He tells them that the temple, called Veimhand, was built thousands of years ago by a follower of the "the Traveler," a wizard who infused the temple with sleeping magic in order to aid the giants in keeping their mad god, Kostchtchie, in eternal slumber. Tribes of frost giants have recently begun bringing tributes to keep the giant at bay, but Fafnir's uncle did not bring enough, and risks retribution from the other tribes. As Fafnir leaves, he asks the party to slay the other frost giants within to create a distraction and mask his uncle's disgrace. He also tells Arturo that his curse will not begin to abate until he leaves Veimhand. After Fafnir departs, the party continues deeper into temple, where they find an offering room, watched over by the stone statue of a woman. As Quigley scouts ahead, the next door he opens reveals temple's inner sanctum, where it appears Kostchtchie himself resides with his frost giant guards. The demon-god demands tribute from the party, and they have only seconds to decide what actions they will take before Kostchtchie's patience is at an end.
