Aleria Campaign / Doomsday Dawn /The Heroes of Underhill pt. 5 / 3589 CE / 5-28-19

As the sun begins to set on the Temple of Underhill, the Gatekeepers have just repelled a cadre of wraiths. However, their respite is short lived, as two ghostly figures appear on the cemetary outside, and begin casting a ritual over the already churning earth. The ground becomes a dark portal from which emerge mummified corpses, who move to assault the temple defenders. As the Gatekeepers fight off the mummies, the ghost mages declare that their master has been summoned, and a lich appears, immediately casting a fireball in the midst of the party. The ghosts reveal they too are powerful spellcasters, and a pitched battle takes place, pitting the dark magic of the undead against the holy might of the Gatekeepers. The mummies are destroyed, but after Herman is nearly killed by a particularly brutal lightning bolt from the lich, he responds with a disintegration ray which nearly destroys the lich, but his will to continue fighting is broken when a powerful suggestion spell from one of the ghost mages causes Talia to flee the battle. Herman attempts to negotiate his own safe passage with the lich, who seems to find common ground with the necromancer, and agrees. Now down by two, the party must attempt to rally if they still have any chance of saving the day.
