Shorthand Overview

This is a primer, that goes over the important information of Animundi. It is written from an Out-Of-character standpoint, and is here to help people understand the world.     World Lore (In terms of common knowledge)
  • Fantasy World based on (west) African Lore and myths
    • Other myths and legends exist, due to the parallels between them.
    • Also a bunch of crap I stole from Magic: The Gathering’s design and stuff WoW threw out. I mean shit if they want to throw shit like dragon aspects away I don't see why I can't take em Was written well before Dragonflight, but I'm not gonna stop binch IT WAS 10 YEARS AND WE WERE ON YEAR 8
  • Big Emphasis on duality. Not necessarily good and evil. Is a big thing in African lore
  • Especially active and passive energy.
  • Techlology is slightly more advanced than your standard medieval setting, but still favors magic. 50/50 split solidly. Apparently it's called Clockpunk
    • For real world similarities, Anything and everything from the European Renaissance to the 1750s is fine and almost common, whereas the next hundred years become stupid rare, with the hard cap of advancement being 1880s.
      • Doorknobs don’t exist lol.
      • This rule is fairly broken for seafaring tech because of it’s commonality with in literally every other setting so don’t @ me
    • Guns exist and have for over a thousand years. Other tech is still reliable because gunpowder explodes or gets wet.
    • Literally no such thing as technological compression, iz all big and bulky
    • Iron is hella important
    • Everything still looks african sorry not sorry
  • I had to reformat this because WA's text editor doesn't have indents innately, and it's WYSIWYG is hot garbage, 0/10 tbh

    Timeline

In the beginning, there was a world.   The world’s default peoples were Humans, Gnolls, Ratton, Leonin, Lizardfolk, Kobolds, Minotaur, Naga, Tortle, Triton, and Aven.   Goblins, Satyr, Brir existed exclusively in the local feywild, The Olofictus. For awhile.   Giants fell to the Elementals. That’s how you get Titans   The dragons were dragons. They enslaved Lizardfolk and Kobolds. Also, some other magic from now long extinct giants.   Magic be wildin, yo     Oops all Rifts   The Olofictus got super fricked   Rest of the world got fricked too. Think Vermintide but like a lot worse.   The rifts led to other places that were also fairly fucking dangerous   Nobody knows why this happened, but it probably had something to do with magic   Almost all the old gods heccin died. The one that didn’t vanished, and only returned after an eclipse   Also hey real quick if you know what the Pact Primevil is you know that most pantheons with gods that can’t get along are an old PUBG lobby and some worlds have been destroyed for less. So many opportunistic or just plain asshole gods saw this emptying pantheon and were like “Cowabunga it is”. So hey. A war of the heavens.   The heavens? They get FRICKED   Whole swathes of people from other worlds got exposed to, and trapped on, the plane. So your favorite playable race got transplanted dw   Elves escaping some kind of Forgotten Realms bullshit saw this destroyed house and was like “Holy the fuck” and tried to fix it. Saw the material plane and spread through the world out of Nuquam   So we got elves, what next?   uh, Goblins and elves got along. They’re still little gremlin ass people, though. They're jusy fey.   Dwarves met Minotaur and didn’t add them to the book. The two are pretty tight now   Tabaxi met the Leonin and they did not get along. Until they did. Realized cats could rule the world if left unchecked. cats strong together   Orcs came and fought humans for awhile but then got along and this totally boded well in places like Labentia, a place with slight colonist leaning   Colonialist orcs is a surprise tool that will help us later   Firbolg also met humans and this totally boded well for places like Labentia.   Also, two kinds of Firbolg, the viking and the cow   There's another humanoid race I'd add but honestly it's just blue humans from MtG and I REALLY like them but they might be too copyrighted for my blood so I don't know.   Loxodon met everyone else and because they’re pals with everyone it’s kinda hard to really hate them you know, they're just big soft trunk having people   Kreen came from someplace and holy shit fucking psionic mantis people, why WOULDN'T THEY BE USED   Also, your favorite race/ancestry is totally here too probably yeh (just rare)   Hey rememeber how magic was wildin Well it’s even more fucking wild now!   A lot of people exposed to fey or otherworldly energies (see: far realm-ish, in the Olofictus) and became more fey, more psionic, more shadowy, more warped, or some combo of all four   Many peoples got physically changed, some irreparably but it's okay because they just adapted. Like humans, naga, goblins, and gnolls. After awhile people just wake up with more or less appendages than usual and are like 'Oh well this is fine'   Hey, the Heavens and the Hells called and said the setting needed Aasimar and Tieflings. So through the power of multidimensional tomfoolery (and foreign energies mixing with the passive and active shid), we got them too   The are not "we have Tieflings at home"   Dragons were almost wiped out and turned to the remaining god and godlike beings for help. The gods actually listened, the madlads   More deities showed up and wrestled for control of the realm, including two well known dragon deities I'm not sure you can copyright   Pantheon finally settles as the prominent gods remain (see: the fucking winners). Leads to an inner, secular pantheon and an outer, forbidden "do not even think about spreading yourselves here" outgroup.   The Golden Age I MEAN the Good Time I MEAN the age of enlightment I MEAN the Sacred Era   imma be sayin dragon a lot and I will not be apologizing sorry   After a climatic king of the hill, the gods realized they literally cannot get close to Animundi without it getting even more fucked, so they devise a plan through their dragon followers.   They make Divine Avatars to oversee the world's still turbulent landscape and someone gets caught   Animundi Dragons be like "You could make a religion out of this"   Certain dragons become enchanted with the power of the world's now missing or corrupted animal loa. Via magic, this creates the first Dragon Aspects   3.5e Dragonborn because dragon deities, and also it's cool lore that is mine now   The avatars' connection to their deities grow distant as time wears on and the world heals. The gods eventually elect to put the fate of the world into the hands of the mortals and their Aspects, enshrining the creation of Deific Champions, or those who'd serve the gods' will.   This totally won't fucking backfire in the future lmao   The world eventually settled, but not before a seriously large amount of grabs at power and restoring world occurred   Oh god it’s finally over   World focused on rebuilding, and building up again, with this new, strange, post post apocalyptic world in mind. And nothing bad happened ever agai-   The Modern Era, or the 'I literally didn't name it' era   Gestatio is fucked and has remained fucked for...ever   Nuquam is mostly underwater, but most of it’s inhabitance is don’t mind because they live underwater lol   The Underdark of this world is now not only filled with alterplanar monsters but fucking sea monsters too. A ¾’s undersea underdark.   Quala is doing fine, totally. Probably.   Quasi became a super power and started trying leverage against Labentia in small ways. Political intrigue in all that, but nothing bad ever happens when people do this so w/e   Thousands of years later Labentia started a war by blowing up a city. Like, a whole city. This was widely considered to be a bad move.   The war ended after 10 years, but even 300+ years later Labentia is doing the saltiest run back you've not seen since Seto Kaiba   Hope you guys like a Cold War   Moderner Day (Today)   Hope you guys like a Cold War   Some Rifts still exists, but they are rare. They are also the worst thing.   The pantheon is a powder keg of conflict because few things are stopping some dark gods from trying to much shit up again since they can only be there in spirit   yes that's a pun   The delicate balance of the world is constantly threatened by turmoil, but life still finds a way   *peace was never an option*
