Slip-worm

This large species of worm-like animal lives underneath the subautem overhangs, where it drills through rock, making dens.

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are long, with an armored head. They also produce an acid that can eat through rock and stone.

Biological Traits

They are covered with a wrinkled, scale-like hide, and are able to release acid through pores on their lower jaw.

Genetics and Reproduction

There are actually three genders! Male and females mate together, but the Inters, as they are called, have the sole purpose of traveling to new grounds and reproducing there, as they are hermaphrodites.

Growth Rate & Stages

They are born as small larvae, who are parasitic to the parent. This strange method guarantees that the young are not far from the parent, giving them increased protection. When they reach about a foot in length, they leave the parent and start to filter feed, as the adults do.

Ecology and Habitats

All they really need is a large rock to dig into and make a den. When feeding, they stick their head and neck out of the hole and filter feed using their large mandibles.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Anything that is small and in the water is on the menu. As for habits, there isn't much information available on this, as not many can fit into their tunnels.

Biological Cycle

They just grow, no hibernation or resting for long periods, but they do shed their skin, eating it afterwards.

Additional Information

Social Structure

They can live close together, but if their tunnels intersect, fights often break out.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Some brave souls dive down and harvest the acid to use in potions and sometimes poisons.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

In any oceanic location with an abundance of large rocks.

Average Intelligence

Quite low.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

They have no eyes, but guide themselves by echolocation. They have a weak sense of smell, but use it sometimes in small spaces.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

They are parasitic to their parents when young. They also provide other animals with abandoned dens, which they quickly introduce themselves into the new safe homes.
