Constructor
These large, beetle-like creatures are commonly found in wooded areas, where they are essentially the termites, cutting down trees and stumps to create their massive nests, that can exceed over 50' tall, and go over 10' under the ground.
Basic Information
Anatomy
There are three species in the group, two are larger and build large nests above ground in forests. The third, and smallest species is commonly called a 'water beetle', as they weave nests from kelpy plants and other weak aquatic structures.
Biological Traits
Dark coloring, large spikes or horns, along with a few different designs for nests with different woods.
Genetics and Reproduction
Only the kings and Queens are allowed to mate. If a king or queen dies, one of the workers molts several more times within a week to replace them.
Growth Rate & Stages
They start as pulp-eating grubs, which are closely monitored by the adults, as the young are defenseless and make a good meal. They molt a few dozen times until they reach the adult stage.
Ecology and Habitats
The low-lying forests near the Eastern Continental Coast harbor the most mounds of all Animoterra.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Which the young just eat wood pulp, the adults commonly eat mold and fungus growing inside their wooden fortress and also are known to eat infertile eggs.
Biological Cycle
If the temperature drops below 40 degrees F, they enter a state of dormancy, which can last for months.
Additional Information
Social Structure
The Queens and kings are treated like we would treat royalty, but the others are treated as equals.
Domestication
Not possible, as they need constant wood and fungus supplies.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Can be used, with skill, of course, to fell trees and develop land.
Geographic Origin and Distribution
Anywhere with trees (or streams), but they are much more common on the larger continent.
Average Intelligence
Not very developed, but they have simple problem solving capabilities.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Like insects, they have antennae, but also are covered with sensitive hairs, as their vision has some things to be desired.
Scientific Name
Aricimex giga
Origin/Ancestry
Unknown, as they have only showed up recently.
Lifespan
Queens and kings can live to be nearly 30, while workers rarely live to see 5.
Conservation Status
Not many hives exist, but they are in a healthy population.
Average Height
The workers average at around 2' tall, kings are around 4' and Queens can be up to 6' due to their large horns.
Average Weight
Depends on species and type.
Average Length
Workers:4' kings:5' Queens: up op 8'
Average Physique
Large and tank-like.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Many are dark red or black, but some have been recorded being purple or even blue.
