The Ancient Paradise

Summary

Long, long ago, when time was nothing more than a mere idea and the Unseen Fabric was only a single thread in the hands of the Fabricweaver, the Ancients got tensed up because of all the hard work they did and decided that they needed a place of leisure, relaxation and entertainment. At first they envisioned a palace of hedonism, with plenty of tasty food, nourishing drinks, exciting games and fantasy-indulging experiences. A staff of beautiful, fast and efficient servants would satisfy their every whim. But after floating these grand ideas the Ancients soon decided that this type of getaway could possibly be a bit too much fun and that is could lead them to give up their productivity in favor of pleasure.

The second iteration of their plans consisted of creating more passive means of entertainment: a place where a mix of sentient and insentient creatures would live their own lives, evolve and build their own little utopia... or experience such animosity towards each other that they would make each other go extinct. Either way the Ancients would be able to watch situations unfold and gain joy from unexpected choices and encounters.

The idea was further developed and the Ancients ultimately decided on a third iteration: a compromise between the idea of the completely passive entertainment and the (inter)active experience of the initial palace. They would create the place for the creatures to live in and for the Ancients to observe, but they would also grant themselves a construct that allowed the Ancients to easily interfere with matters and to even let them be part of that new world without arousing suspicion from the native creatures.

As with every living being, the Ancients often got bored with their worlds of entertainment and created new ones to get a fresh experience. Or sometimes the natives of a world simply obliterated themselves and the world they were living in, which made the creation of a new world simply a necessity. At some point the world of Anduron was created, but it is special world! The Ancients took a particular liking to this world, with it's unique and intelligent lifeforms, and they can't seem to get enough of us. This is why Anduron has existed longer than any of its predecessors, probably even longer than all predecessors combined(!), and will continue to exist for aeons to come.
