Scrullywop

Scrullywop is a species of small creatures that has the peculiar property that their brain develops based on the amount of interaction with other creatures. In this case 'interaction' means both passive interaction (observation) as active interaction (communicating, verbal or physical contact).

Basic Information

Anatomy

Scrullywops are small, cat-sized, with six limbs; two legs and four arms doubling as legs during locomotion. Their head is attached to a long, very thin and flexible neck. They have a long tail curled up like a spring which they can use to bounce up in the air again after landing from a height. Their botton half is covered in (often grey to black) fur, while their body from the chest up is covered in green slimy scales. The body is supported by a skeleton and a muscular system. The head of a scrullywop contains three eyes: one big one in the center and two smaller ones on small stalks to the sides of it. They have disproportionally and comically large cat-like ears on top of their head.

Ecology and Habitats

Scrollywops prefer the safety of the forests, where they can use their excellent climbing skills to hide high up in the trees when danger approaches. They can jump from tree to tree to move around without having to get to the ground and expose themselves to the predators that are lurking there. They can also use the trees as safe observation posts to observe other creatures from a safe distance without being noticed.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Scrollywops are herbivores. They are usually able to find plenty of food in their natural habits.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Instinctively scrullywops live in closely-knit groups. This is often the case with the ones that have experienced little brain development. Those that are more developed tend to be more individualistic.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Scrullywop brains have two uses: study and nano-level adhesive. The brains are removed and processed once a scrullywop dies. The more developed the brain the bigger it is and the stronger and more of the adhesive can be made. So both quality as well as quantity is increased with better developed brains.

The slime being secreted from the scales on the upper body is used to enhance the taste of various dishes and can be collected from both living and dead scrullywops by gently scraping it off the scales.
