Kirolian mountains

Kirolian Kula

The Kirolian mountains are some of the most famous in Fehadla, known throughout history as the great dividers between the East and West empires, they have been the natural barricades between the two since the empires were instated. This range is home to several prominent peaks including The Bre'at and Mount Elzai, there are also several ancient temple complexes within the mountains that belong to some Theonic gods and even some buildings that were once home to the mythical Ommir.

Geography

Stretching from the Slumber Strait on the south coast of Elzai to the Bone Coast on the north coast, this mountain range splits the Island into two. West and east Elzai only a singular small pass through the peaks allows passage from either side. These mountains easily reach 3000m on average many are volcanic with thermal vents, and smouldering craters, small eruptions are infrequent but not unexpected. Those who climb some of the mountains speak of incredible views, on a clear day you can sea across the Zai Sea to the Kingdoms of A'ular and Re'lak. But the craggy rocks and animals here can make this journey dangerous, many have lost their lives trying climb one of the many peaks.

Localized Phenomena

Poisonous gasses are common in the mountains and are prevalent from the base and surrounding highlands to the highest of peaks. Many are warned of the dangers of the gases which are mainly sulphuric while short term exposure is usually non-hazardous long term exposure can lead to death if not treated or protected correctly. Locals who live at the base of the range have grown a resistance to the gasses which they refer to as 'Mazu' (The wrath of the mountain spirit) combined with alchemical protection known as Mazunic potion the gases no longer effect the local people who call the mountains home. However only the locals know the recipe to this potion never writing it down and refusing to share it with others.

Volcanic vents are common sights upon the peaks with new ones forming every week usually accompanied by several small earthquakes, many try to understand them as omens or messages from the spirits to mortal kind. These vents release a plethora of gases and precious elements but the extreme heat can make them dangerous to get close to.

Fauna & Flora

Not much can survive in the mountains, but there are a few hardy plants and animals that can.
Wyverns
These are smaller dragons that are not considered sentient nor as children of the gods. Depending on the specific species, wyverns either hunt independently or in small packs of 2-5. While mortals are usually too big and dangerous for them to hunt they have recently started to become bolder and now packs will start to target some travellers.
Wolves and Tinnyrs
Wolves have become less common in the area as they are being hunted and forced out of the mountains by a relatively new species to the area. Tinnyrs are beasts that are just as adept on the the ground as they are in the air, and in the past 3-5 years they have migrated from southern Fehadla further up north for unknown reasons.
Delcrag wort and Yellow hemlock
Both plant species are relatively common in the mountains but rare in areas of lower altitude, many will go on expeditions to find these valuable plants. The Delcrag is useful as a base in many alchemical properties due to having no major properties that can change the desired effect of the potion, and the Hemlock is a potent poison valuable to many despite being illegal to harvest or own.

Natural Resources

There are some natural elements like silver and iron but it is too dangerous now to try and collect due to the volcanic hazards, the fauna that are becoming increasingly deadly, and the general topography of the mountains makes it difficult to set up outposts without them falling off the side of a cliff. Most resources are exploited at the base of the range where it is safer, however smaller expeditions might be sent up.

History

These mountains are filled with the old nesting sites of Dragons from before the Fall, these nests can be identified by large indentations in the rock near or even in volcanic vents as well as close to the craters of some of the active volcanoes. Surrounding these nests there is ancient Ommir infrastructure jutting out of the rock itself, their unique architecture are reminiscent of ancient Dwarven buildings and are obvious to see.   Hidden in some of the mountains are ancient temples and shrines to several Gods of the Theonic pantheon, the exact locations of these places of worship have been long obscured to all but the most devout followers and for most this is the final pilgrimage.
19th of Zava of the year 2230,   Finally I have come across what I believe to be the path into the temple, after two weeks of trudging though snow, dodging vents, lava flows, and climbing the crags. I've arrived. By Riant's blessing I've passed his test. Tomorrow I will enter his sacred halls, and worship. I have enough food to last me a few days before I have to return.
Despite being the 'great divider' between the two empires they are no known forts or military installations in the mountains,. In the past the Ommir would have guarded the border and their own installations prevented the building of said forts. Thankfully since their disappearance the Fehadlan empires have put aside their differences for the most part, this is to try and ensure that their Kingdom remains in one piece. As without the Ommir the Kingdom is more vunrable now than ever.
