Christmas Elves and Sugar Myth

There's a myth within Ancient Power concerning sugar and Christmas Elves who seem to thrive on it within Santa's Realm. This myth has been circulated for centuries in the mortal world. It tells of how the Christmas Elves discover they have the ability to eat candy and sugary foods then work faster afterwards.   Many say it adds to the Santa Mythos. Although some parents and some people within the medical field say this myth is a bald tale for children. Children that already have more energy than their teachers and older family members. Children who might believe sugar is a great idea. These same people say it adds to the already stressful talk about health, balance between the food groups and eating healthy (AKA moderation). Others say it ensures children learn about anatomy or that each species (and maybe sub-species) are different when it comes to food and their diet.

Let's read the tale then we'll talk about it. Keep in mind that Christmas Elves are hard at work all around Santa's Toy Workshop Compound-Christmastide Valley. And every year, they are more busy with Christmas fast approaching.

The Myth

Once upon a time, the elves realized the list of good children that year had grown extremely long. While it had been steadily increasing, the number of Christmas Elves had not. And now the list has grown more than all could handle. They needed more elves. And yet there were none.   The elves are worried. The elves know they must create more love and hope in the world for Christmas Spirit to remain for another year. How can they make all the toys and not disappoint the children? How can they do it before Santa lifts off?   They ask Santa.   "Santa, how can we afford to make the ever-growing list of toy requests? How do we do it with our workforce as small as it is?"   Santa stops. Santa thinks. He stops. "Continue to make toys. I might have the answer."   The elves return to work.   As this was early on, Santa had no wife but had many cooks and bakers in the kitchens separate from the workshop. He walked to them.   "Greetings, makers and creators of mouth-watering meals. I need to ask a question."   The head chef said, "Santa is here. Please ask away."   "We need help. Are they bringing candy from the mine yet?"   "Yes. The elves have been bringing stuff all day."   "Get all candy canes. I'll grab a bag."   Nicholas leaves and go to his storage closet. He sees many bags. He grabs them all. Upon reaching the kitchens again, he hands them to various elves.   "Please fill a few bags with candy canes."   They do so. And when it is done, Nicholas thanks them and heads to the workshop. He begins handing them out. Slowly, each elf got one.   "Try it. You never know."   The elves stop working. They begin eating it. Once eaten, something not known began to happen. All the elves began assembling toys at an incredible speed. Amazed elves watched them. The makers themselves felt better. But nobody understood it. Why did the candy canes bring them more energy? Why did they now make toys faster? Both questions were intriguing to the people.   By the time lunch was made and given to each elf and Nicholas, the toymakers had made more toys than expected. They felt relieved. It now would take less time when eating candy because they had energy. What's even more unexpected is that the kitchen elves (the cooks and the bakers) had found out (AKA been enlightened) how to make brownies, cakes, hot chocolate, cookies, and much more so that they had plenty of food to give them energy.   It was dinner when they thanked whomever had made the candy mine and also "The Creators". They slept well that night.   The first ones outside of the residents to know were Father Time and Mother Nature. They came the next day. They saw this with their own eyes and had no answers. But it was meant to be. Least they guessed. From then on, Santa made sure that a steady supply of treats was available for all elven beings in the valley.   This is the story of how Santa's Family discovered the power of sugar and candy. Now, the elves and Santa work knowing that centuries will pass with Santa having the ability to deliver gifts for the Spirit of Christmas to continue working unless time comes that it doesn't.

Origins of the Myth

How mortals learned of this myth is unknown. It is not a myth within the mystical world.

The Truth

So, what is the truth?   The truth, dear child, is more simple than you might think.   Christmas Elves do have magical powers. And yet, those powers are more dormant after the fall of magic. They will be active when magic comes again.   But their bodies are semi-magical too. They can turn sugar into usable energy. Carbohydrates bypass the glycogen storage. Instead, it goes directly into being used as energy which allows them to work faster to complete any task.
REMEMBER: Elves, and other mystical humanoid species, are biologically similar to Humans.

Science and Truth

Christmas Elves cannot survive solely on sugar alone. Remember that depictions of this are whimsical exaggeration. However, Christmas Elves eat a balanced diet to sustain their tireless efforts while ensuring Christmas Spirit is able to continue.

Candy and Sugar in Christmas Elfin Culture

But, what is candy culturally?   Candy holds a special place in Christmas traditions and customs.
The Department of Christmastide Beliefs, Tradtions, and Customs state candy symbolizes the simplicity of childhood and the joy of sharing and giving. All of which greatly centralize around Christmas Spirit and the Christmas Crystals.   Although, it now also holds a special place in the culture of Christmas Beings.
