The Order of the Crystal Rose
An elite military unit, the Order of the Crystal Rose has always enforced the will of the Church of Astilabor.
Structure
The High Marshall of the Order of the Crystal Rose is the Aspect of Astilabor, the leader of the Draconic Church. But, while he has absolute command over the Order's army in theory, most of the day to day operations are handled by the council of generals who answer directly to the Aspect.
The council of generals is made up of seven high ranking paladins, which reflects the structure of the army. The Order's paladins are split into five groups of 1000 men, named the Petals of the Rose. Each of these has a general who sits on the council. The archers and foot are commanded by one general of the council each.
The paladins are split further. Every Petal is split into ten companies, each commanded by a captain. A captain also has a lieutenant who acts as his second in command.
The foot and archers are split into battalions of around 300 men, each commanded by a captain of their own who also has a lieutenant. They are then split into squares of 30 men, with a sergeant commanding each one on the battlefield and these squares are further divided into squads of up to 10 men, each under the command of a corporal.

Assets
The Order can field up to 5000 paladins sworn to Astilabor, as well as another 10.000 footmen and archers to complement them.
Military
If a person wishes to join the Order they must undergo a physical evaluation. Once they pass, they are then trained to use their pikes and shortswords in formation through rigorous training. The archers are drilled to perfection and both the foot and the archers are regularly tested. Those who fail these tests are banished from the Order.
Only nobles with prior training in horseback combat or sufficiently experienced paladins of Astilabor may become paladins of the order. After they have sworn their vows they are subject to strict discipline and training as, if not more, rigorous as the foot and archers.
The Company has always relied upon the strength of the paladins' charge and the powers granted to these knights by Astilabor. Magical attacks weaken the enemy line before the full force of the heavy cavalry strikes the foes of the Order. The foot is used to shore up the flanks of the cavalry and to hold the front line if the paladins were to need assistance. The archers are there to support the foot and the paladins, usually by softening the enemy with arrows before the charge is sounded.
