Session IV
General Summary
The party decides to scout out the Necromancer's castle hoping to stop him once and for all.
Missions/Quests Completed
After the ambush and slaughter of most of the Thunderguard, the party ran away, being chased through the forest by hordes of undead. After resting for the night, they decided to double back to the site of the battle to better asses what had happened.
The battlefield was strewn with corpses, which were being raised by a number of hooded figures. After a while a stranger in black plate armor arrived and took command of the army, leading them back towards the village of Wexberg which they planned on burning down. The party decided to split up, with the satyr using his magically augmented speed to travel to Wexberg and warn the villagers of the impending attack. The others travelled further into the mountains and towards the Necromancer's lair.
Near the village Zaradis reunited with Maple, and they travelled back to find their companions after having warned the villagers. The rest of the party had arrived at a strange hut by then, meeting its proprietor, an elderly orcish lady named Vola. The hut turned out to be a sort of inn, a resting place for travellers in the mountains, and two of its current guests, a half elf necromancer named Melvin, and a dwarven bastard of house Ingmar, decided to join the party. They were tasked by Vola to convince her son to come back home, and set out to find him. The small boy turned out to be a large minotaur, but the party still managed to return him to his mother.
Maple and Zaradis soon rejoined them, and after some arguing and resting they all continued their journey towards the Necromancer's lair, having received a map from Vola in exchange for their help. After arriving, they scouted out the castle and discovered a massive army of undead packed into its walls. The party formulated a plan, deciding that Melvin would inflitrate the castle posing as an aspiring necromancer who wanted to learn from the master, while Zaradis would use magic to disguise himself to look like his zombie servant. While they did this Maple would magically dig a tunnel through which the rest of the party could come into the castle's keep undetected. Unfortunately, the Necromancer had placed warding spells around the castle and detected Maple's tunnelling. He instructed Melvin to kill her and present him the body, but the party managed to trick him into thinking Baroness Nue's Unseen Servant in a sack was the dead pixie. Just before springing their trap and attacking the Necromancer, he teleported away, telling Melvin to meet him at Loughdorn.
The party was left alone in the Necromancer's castle, as the army had disappeared by the time they looked outside. They raided the Necromancer's living quarters, stealing what they could and then burned down the castle gates after walking out.
