Personal history
Arthur was born a year before his younger brother Peran. They were raised in a village north of the town of Loughdorn, in the foothills of the Anwin Peaks. Growing up the sons of a cattle herder, the brothers lived a calm and boring childhood. At one point though, herding cattle wasn't enough for them.
One day a hedge knight was passing through the village and Arthur convinced him to take him along. Arthur squired for the knight for years, travelling from town to town, caring for the knight's horse, his weapons and his armor. The older man fought in tourneys and served minor lords in their petty conflicts and the boy followed him anywhere he went. By his twentieth birthday he had seen most of Ancaepya and met lords great and small.
Arthur was a quick study. He learned to read and write and do basic math, he learned court etiquette and horseback riding, but most importantly he learned how to hold a sword and command on the battlefield. He quickly outgrew his master and was soon stronger and faster than him too. His skill grew as well, though not as rapidly as his body. The older man knighted Arthur on his twenty third birthday, and after that they parted ways as equals.
Arthur, well Sir Arthur, soon found a use for his new title and founded a mercenary company. They were doing quite well, but something was going wrong financially and he couldn't figure out what. Then, as luck would have it, he ran into his brother again. The brothers joined forces and became co-captains of the company. The combination of Peran's intellect and learnedness and Arthur's battlefield experience and knight's training soon made the Thunderguard into a successful business venture and the two brothers have travelled together ever since.
