Arcanic Energy

Arcanic energy (or arcane, symbolized as A) is a form of energy, sometimes referred to as "magic", present throughout the universe. Arcane is mediated by thaumions (Θ), rare scalar elementary particles that mediate the presence and behaviour of arcane fields across space. Background arcana is largely inert to normal matter, but it interacts weakly with certain exotic or metaplanar materials such as Thaumium , which traps thaumions in its crystalline lattice. This principle forms the basis for all Magitek including convenient intrastellar travel, as well as Spellweaving.   A few civilizations have relied on Arcana throughout history. The Boshaari homeworld, Kalim, was particularly rich in arcanic energy at some point in the distant past. This abundance strongly influenced early Boshaari civilization, leading them to develozp arcane technologies and become pioneers in spellweaving. By contrast, the Tau Elpis system has a generally weak ambient arcane field, limiting the effectiveness of spellweaving or the presence of Thaumium deposits. The outer world Zindra is an exception, but its arcanosphere (free thaumions bouncing in its thick atmosphere) remains far inferior to that of Kalim.   Metamagics is the scientific and philosophical study of arcana, focussing on its manipulation, amplification and structured application across space and materials. Enchantment and transmutation were ancient Boshaari examples of early metamagics, through nowadays scientists focus on thaumic fluid dynamics, hyperspace dynamics, metaplanar conjuration  and attunement theory.
