Jagodoans are a derivative of Terran Humanity that originated from the Li Wei Expedition (launched 30 October 2170) of the Hermes Initiative (2156-2190). They are a genetically modified group of people, having experimented on their own genome in order to adapt to the toxic environment of their native planet of Jagodo. The genetic modification has enabled Jagodoans to not only survive on the heavy-metal-laden Jagodo, but thrive.
A Brief History
Jagodoans originated from the 2,471 passengers aboard the expedition ship of the Li Wei Expedition of the Hermes Initiative. They were planned to colonize the Earth-like planet Jagodo, but upon arrival, they discovered the entirety of the ecosystem had large amounts of arsenic, lead, and cadmium circulating through the environment. Even the plants were unable to be consumed without risking heavy metal poisoning. There were, however, several genetic engineers aboard the Li Wei Expedition, and they got to work as soon as the colony began to establish itself. They used genetic modification techniques to ensure the next generation of colonists would be capable of surviving the environment, and used a method of mutation to ensure the current colonists' survival.Culture
Average technological level
Jagodoans are by and large a space faring people, although they rarely travel outside of their solar system for reasons other than trade. The Jagodoan people are an insular community, who are more wary of outsiders than not.
Though they have sophisticated technology and use it on the regular, Jagodo is largely considered a backwater by other groups due to their tendency to stick to their own groups and general home world location being not only outside of Core Space, but light years away from any other settled solar system.

Foods & Cuisine
Most Jagodoan foodstuffs are inedible to other derivatives of Terran Humanity and to Terran Humanity itself due to the high quantity of arsenic found in the native environment of Jagodo, which has transferred into the crops and livestock produced on the planet.
Thanks to the toxin-filtering adaptions the Jagodoans have edited into their genome, Jagodoans have no issue with what would cause mild-to-moderate lead poisoning in Terran Humanity as well, so they often use small quantities of the sweet-tasting lead as a sweetener in signature dishes and high-quality wines.
The odd dietary abilities of Jagodoans have given rise to unsavory nicknames among other variations of humanity such as "Garbage Disposals" and the terms "Iron-Stomached" or "Steel-Stomached" are widely used to describe Jagodoans.
