The Laughing God

The Laughing God

Eldest and ageless   First and foremost   Last of the lost,   Lord of the Song       King of the crownless,   Master of merriment,   Fortune’s father,   Laughing God
Since before the Dawn, faeries and spirits have lifted crystal goblets of nectar to celebrate the Laughing God. Not Nuinn, nor Morco, nor the elements themselves remember a time before the Laughing God reveled in their halls of Winesong. Their tale begins before the Quest for the Book of Dawn, before the founding of Ioth Academy, before even the Dawn itself.   The Laughing God’s name is gone, lost, or hidden by their cleverness. There are few who dedicate their lives to their worship, but as Fortune’s Father and Lady Luck, countless are the rogues and lovers who live or die by their whim. Prayers to the Laughing God are heartfelt or casual, depending on how much rides on a particular hand of cards. Tavernmongers pour the first draught of each keg in their honor—not spilled on the ground, of course, but downed with vigor. To waste perfectly good alcohol earns one no favors with the Laughing God.   In the mythos of Anacra the Laughing God is an enigma. Faeries call them “Eldest and Ageless,” suggesting they may be one of the first divine beings created, or may predate creation itself. Their power is not in divine wrath, but in subtlety and guiding the hand of fortune.   The Laughing God favors those without much luck on their own. Orphans, outcasts, beggars and bards. Misers earn his frowns, prodigals her favor. Every roll of the dice, every song of wooing, every tankard of ale is an act of devotion. They delight in confounding the mighty and uplifting the lowly. Wherever two or more are gathered together in cheer and merriment, their presence can be felt.

Accomplishments & Achievements

When Luminias fell in the Dawn Era, The Laughing God returned from his merriment in the halls of Winesong. She went to the Silent City, the last remnants of the Old World, and opened the Seven Gates. From those gates poured forth the Dragons, terrors of the Old World, and they fell upon the demon legions with a thundering roar, breaking and driving them away. When their wrath was complete, the Laughing God sealed them behind their gates once again.
