Founding

The events leading up to and following the formation of the kingdom of Kíathandí

The people now known as the Kíans were slaves to the Gaenans. They were mistreated, and many thousands perished. Grateor was a slave, taken from his mother as a young child and sold countless times to different buyers. He had a few close friends who were also slaves as well as the son of his owner who believed that the slaves should be free.   Grateor led the initial resistance, helping them to gather more followers and creating a small underground army, supplied by weapons brought in by the owner's son. The time came when the people had their first battle against their captors. They managed to overthrow them and break free.   From there, Grateor led his people southeast, freeing all those they encountered along the way. His army grew, enabling them to free more of his people. They called him their saviour. He called them his brothers and sisters and united them under the old and forgotten name of the Kíans. The people spread their newly reclaimed identity across the land of Órlekanú, striking fear into the hearts of slave owners, at risk of losing everything.   The Kerv of Gaenel met with Grateor and the King of Dagdír and they eventually came to an agreement. All Kíans were to be released immediately or else their army would free them by force. The Kíans were to be recognised as a free people and slavery would be outlawed.   The newly freed people came from all across the land to join Grateor, bringing tales that all had been freed thanks to him.   The Kíans boarded ships, given to them by the Dagdarí who supported their quest for freedom and had also threatened Gaenel with war if the slaves weren't freed, and after half a cycle of the moon, they found land. Grateor sailed the ships up a river from the north and founded a small settlement called Hefra . The Kíans all decided to make Grateor their king of this new kingdom they called Kíathandí.   The Kíans spread across their new land, building cities and creating a powerful kingdom. They also discovered the fire dragons which had not been seen within living memory and had been thought extinct. The fire riders were born on Ynrae and a new alliance was formed.
