Styron lived with his parents, Sirken and Brei, and his older sister, Naroa. Together, they lived in a small hamlet in the eastern mountains of Gaenel. His parents were abusive to their children, always scolding them for being lazy and beating them. The siblings were close and looked out for each other as much as possible.   When he was eight, Styron got lost in the woods and found a dragon with a nest of eggs. One of the eggs hatched for him and they bonded. When Styron returned home, he tried to keep the dragon as hidden as he could, only telling Naroa of her existence.   A year later, the young dragon, Xaya, was spotted by locals and hunted down. Styron told the people that she was his dragon and that she wouldn't hurt anyone in a desperate bid to save her. Unfortunately, the people were disillusioned and believed all dragons and those associated with them were evil and brought nothing but bad luck with them.   They exiled Styron instead of killing him after Naroa begged to let him go. Naroa would have gone with him but her parents forbid it and locked her in the house.   Styron, not even ten years old, travelled around Gaenel with Xaya. He rode on her back until she was big enough that she could fly with him. They survived by Styron begging in towns and cities while Xaya remained hidden.   Unfortunately, when he was eleven, Styron was caught pick-pocketing in a town in the north of the kingdom by an ex-soldier. He took Styron back to his home where he gave him an ultimatum. Styron could either stay with the man and work for him or be turned over to the authorities. Styron, fearing the law more than the man, chose to accept his offer.   Over the course of two and a half years, Styron was trained to be a spy and an assassin. He was taught the art of stealth and how to use anything as an improvised weapon. He wasn't the only child used by the man. There were several others, all his age or younger. They were all beaten and abused by the man.   He found out about Xaya early on and made sure that Xaya knew that if she stepped out of line, he wouldn't hesitate to kill her rider. He sent her on missions to track the locations of his targets and have her relay them back to Styron.   Styron and the rest of the remaining children fought back one day. Many died as he was much stronger than them but Styron managed to plunge his dagger into the man's neck, killing him instantly.   The freed children all went their separate ways, some returning to families and others starting their lives fresh. Styron went back to travelling the kingdoms, soaring over mountains and vast forests and living off the bare minimum.   Together, Styron and Xaya visited many of the major towns and cities in the three kingdoms. They eventually ended up in Maedrim in Kíathandí where they met Kassaran and his dragon, Grateor.

He is terrible at knowing when a joke is being told or how to tell them. His attempts at humour often fall flat and confuse whoever he's speaking with.   He is excellent at talking his way out of sticky situations.

Likes sunsets on a clear night, sleeping beneath the stars and being in remote places, away from the rest of the world. Dislikes anyone with a job to do with the law. Hates cabbage.
