Torog God of the Underdark (tor - ah - guh)

King Torog, the Forge-Father, Monarch Under the Mountain, Uplifter of the Forest, is the God of the Underdark. Symbolized by a mountain range. He represents the mountains, the Underdark, Dwarven culture, and Volcanoes

Overview

His alignment is Neutral Evil. A typically angry God that manifests that anger in seismic activity resulting in either earthquakes or possibly a volcanic eruption. In Dwarven culture it is thought he resides in the planets core and will push rarer materials or gems through the rock and earth in their direction for worshiping him

Followers

His followers are mostly that of Dwarves as he is thought to be responsible for creating them. He is also thought to be responsible for creating many of the monstrous creatures and abominations that also dwell within his domain. He's not typically worshiped by anyone above ground, but it's not shunned by others either. Some of the most devout mortals you will ever come across are those that follow Torog, they like to show this with a fierce pride by imbedding small stones, rocks, and gems into their skin

Omen

When Torog is absent from the core, its depths run cold. The streams of magma that run through Dwarven cities that once brought light and warmth, begin to behave irradicably. The lava will pulse like a beating heart, its glow will dim, and its heat will fade. The forges that it fuels will be cool to the touch like a hot bath. The effect is temporary, the magma might return in a few days gut the aftermath of this omen can be felt everywhere, even from non-dwarven cultures

The Dwarves call this time "The Brittle". During this time, any creation will prove to be more difficult to manufacture. A smith will find it more difficult to temper their steel, armor will detach from their buckles, nails will bend before piercing, bladed weapons made during The Brittle will dull and corrode much quicker

Return

When Torog returns to his throne in the mountain, he lets his denizens know with a rumbling fury. While a Dwarf is no stranger to the occasional seismic tremor, the quakes from the Earthen-King's return is enough to make even the most resilient of Dwarves petrified. Following the aftershock, gemstones, precious minerals, and rare metals are found int he cracks and crevices made by the convulsion

Followers of Torog believes this to be a sign of the mountain God's return to power. Shortly after, many Dwarves and worshipers of the Forge-Father experience a frisson of inspiration and motivation. Craftsman will finish multiple projects, conjure new contraptions, or be inspired for their magnum opus'. Minders will be invigorated, working without rest or fatigue until dawn breaks

The following day is a day of rest. During which many Dwarven cultures will plan a festival for their youth. Families will bury, imbed, or hide small trinkets in the mines for their kids to unearth and keep. These items can range from coins, quarts, gold nuggets, pieces of armor, and small gemstones

The following evening is known as "The Thumping". This ceremony is a true spectacle to witness, especially when within Dwarven cities or strongholds. When they have had their fill of food and drink; they will sing, stomp, pound, and pummel the ground beneath them in a Dwarven dance. They will operate their foundries tools, machines, and colossal hammers to join the rhythm. The purpose of this is to create a quake of their own. It is seen as an acknowledgment of their god's return, blessings, and a warning to those that would challenge them. showing the heart of the mountain beats strong
