Terrene - Paladin
Paladins are those that serve a purpose that they themselves deem worthy. The purpose can be as righteous as smiting evil or as humble as making sure no one goes hungry each night. They serve this purpose whole heartedly putting all of their faith into it as they pledge themselves and their lives to it. The final step in the ritual for a Paladin to become a Terrene is to have someone pledge themselves to the Paladin in the same way. The indoctrinated is not pledging themselves to the same cause as the Paladin, they are pledging themselves, their service, and with absolute conviction, their lives to the Paladin
The Phylactery for a Terrene isn't an object or an ideal and it is not the number of devotees to it either. The Terrene is able to section off portions of its own soul and bestow it upon whomever it wishes. The more beings that the Terrene bestows itself onto, the weaker it makes itself. Potentially, the Terrene could grant power to an army's worth of individuals, this would leave the Terrene very weak, each member of that army would have an equal amount of power granted to them. If the Terrene granted a single person a Boone of strength or one hundred, they would each receive the same amount. Meaning that the Terrene cannot push all of its power and strength into one individual, a particular person may be able to receive different powers from another, it could vary from person to person
The Terrene does not have a ritual that it must perform to maintain itself. It would seem that after the Paladin becomes a Terrene, they forget the oath that made them a Paladin in the first place. It is easily replaced with a new oath of self-interest. When the terrene gains a new devotee, at any point it can grant or take away power from that individual. If the devotee were to die, the power that was bestowed is returned and thus, returning the strength back to the Terrene. The Terrene is unable to manifest itself after death like most other Lich types, instead relying on its followers or bringing back its power in times of dire need
Terrenes have two weaknesses that would be disastrous if exploited somehow. The first is to find the Terrene when it has spread its own ability so far that it itself has been weakened. Another way is to remove it from all of its followers by means of eliminating them, turning them against their faiths to the Terrene, or banishing the Terrene to another plane where it doesn't have any
