Culler - Ranger
Culler's live and die by the hunt blending a mix of magic and deadly accuracy to take down their targets. When someone who acts as a Ranger through their years of being alive, but they are unwilling to give up the thrill of the kill simply due to age, may take up the ritual to become a Culler. Culler's prefer seclusion as they learn to master and manipulate every kind of environment there is. Most will always be seeking the next worthy kill, not an opponent, a kill. They don't want to fight; they want to hunt and are solely driven by it
The end of the Ranger and beginning of a Culler is when they make a kill and attach a piece of themselves to it, making it the phylactery. This kill is most normally a beast, especially at the start, but as the Culler gets more experienced and refines their ability, they may attach their being onto monstrosities, fey, or even dragons. The creature that the Culler brings down will then rise up as good as it initially was, it is not considered undead. The creature does not appear any different but if the Culler is powerful enough, the creature will be stronger in one way or another, possibly with abilities that the creature would not normally have
The creature that the Culler kills and attaches itself to will still die of old age. It will show no signs of aging and will be forever stronger than it would normally be in its prime. But when that creature reaches the end of its natural life span, ignoring the threat of disease, it will still die of age. When this happens, or if that creature is killed by the sword, the Culler must then go out and find another target for it to latch itself onto. If the Culler were to die before the beast does, then the phylactery will die instead, the Culler will dissipate and reappear in the territory of the creature, they must then find the creature again, reclaim the fraction of its soul, and find a new target again
Killing a Culler does not make it weaker no matter how many times it falls so long as it finds a new creature to attach itself to before it is killed again. However, when the beast of a Culler is killed instead, the fraction of the soul that was split off from the Culler is now forever lost making it weaker as a whole. Despite this, a Culler will do little to defend their beast after they've attached themselves to it. They may protect the territory with enchantments or minions, but they believe that their creature will either defend itself properly or it was unworthy of being its phylactery in the first place. They will then seek out an even greater challenge to attach themselves to next
