Yreus

Born of Etyx, the goddess of darkness, Yreus is the god of conquest, one of the deities of war, alongside Meldona and Valdir. While he created no servant gods of his own, many devils owe their existence to Yreus.

Description

Ancient records of Yreus manifesting before mortals are almost all that exist, with more recent accounts being few and far between, as well as incredibly difficult to trust. All descriptions follow a common theme of a tall figure, clad head to toe in heavy armour, usually of dark steel. Invariably, the figures carry a black metal shield, emblazoned with Yreus' flame. No proven claims of seeing any figure beneath the armour exist, with manifestations staying fully armoured at all times.
In dreams and visions, Yreus appears either in similar form to his physical manifestations, but has also been known to appear as a vaguely humanoid being made purely of deep crimson flame.

History

Yreus was created by Etyx, soon after Sirona brought the races of Amion into being. While other gods taught honour in battle, or fighting for the sake of battle, Yreus began teaching mortals that fighting and war was simply a route to conquest and domination. Using any tactics available, he teaches that the strong will always subjugate the weak, and it is their right to rule. His champions were the first generals of Amion, and helped forge the early nations and warring houses.

Relationships

Followers of Yreus have long standing feuds with those of many other gods, especially Meldona and Valdir, the other gods of war. The trio's ideals and approach to warfare have eternally been at odds, leading them and in turn, their followers, to clash. Over the centuries, many conflicts have occurred between the groups, though the lack of formalised worship of Yreus and Valdir in Avalyra has prevented any large scale war, with Meldona's churches having a stronghold over the kingdom's warriors.

Worshippers

Very few worship Yreus openly, owing to his evil alignment. However, many warriors, especially bandits and mercenaries, pay respects to the Warmaster. No known places of worship exist, though several ancient ruins of Yreus' churches dot the land of Amion. Those who do worship, do so in secret, often around major mercenary company headquarters, or fighting pits.
