Yaldaboath the Dreamer

(a.k.a. The Abyss Walker)

The Great Outisder, The Dreaming Nightmare, That Which Grants Deep Sleep   These are but a few of the monikers of Yaldaboath; God of Death, Oceans, Sleep, and Fear. The names are rarely mentioned in polite company and some superstitions believe even speaking his name tempts the fates to wake him from his slumber in some forgotten abyss.   Time and time again, religious zealots, churches, and mobs destroy The Sleeper's cults and time and time again they arise anew, more desperate, more shadowy, and more insane.

Divine Domains

Death, Tempest   Dreams, Nightmares, Oceans fall under his sleeping eyes.

Divine Symbols & Sigils

His symbol appears like six streams of blood flowing into a single stream. This bizarre symbol has been interpreted in a number of ways, but the most common theory is that the single stream is the tendrils of his dreams reaching up from the depths of the seas to poison the minds of the people above.

Divine Goals & Aspirations

Little is known of Yaldaboath's goals. A recently captured cultist said this much before his tongue and eyes were cut out by a mob— for they did not realize how rare it is to capture a cultist alive:   "He sleeps deep below the seas and above the skies. He dreams of the abyss which he longs to touch again. Make the sky and sea one! Death will not die! Yaldaboath! Yaldaboath! Yalda-"

Social

Contacts & Relations

No one outside of his recurring cults knows how he comes into contact with would-be disciples. Some have speculated that his tendrils creep into dreams. Others say he dreams of cursed items of power that seduce its holder.   Whatever the case, this infection of dreams does not seem to be ending anytime soon.

Religious Views

Few would openly acknowledge worshipping the dark dreamer, however, there are some who do feel his pull.   Warlocks and wizards often come under his sway, tempted by his whispering mutterings. Occasionally his cults will harbour rogues to serve as intermediaries and assassins when needed.

Hobbies & Pets

He is often associated with slugs, cephalopods, and whatever other monstrosities are brought up from the nets of fearful fishermen.

Quotes & Catchphrases
Excerpt from a private letter from Pope Clemency I to an archbishop
When I drift to sleep, sometimes I feel a shudder through my body. My body feels cold, and hungry eyes are watching me. I clutch my rosary closely and pray. Fear him. Fear the old blood.
