Conquest of the Dawn
The Radiant Empire launched a war of aggression against Thera. The war was seen as opportunistic by the rest of the world but with an air general disinterest and lack of capability by the nation-states.
The Conflict
Prelude
Diplomatic parties from Lumos arrive in Sorough, then a trading city of Thera. Diplomats suggest Duchy of Sorough cecede from Thera and willfully join Lumos in the name of Pelor. Sorough refuses and sends diplomats away. Days later, Lumosian General Geoffery D'Iveny declares a "war for the morning light" and begins moving troops towards Sorough.
Deployment
Radian troops began flowing towards the Carcossa region. General D'Iveny uses Godry Seic as a staging base, gathering soldiers and preparing baggage trains.
Theran bannermen are called from the region but are limited by unpreparedness and the lack of sufficient roadways.
The Engagement
A series of field battles were mostly inconclusive, with both sides securing victories and defeats—the Radians through superior numbers and training, and the Therans with a far stronger cavalry.
Outcome
The Bay of Carcossa region became Radian territory, cutting off precious farmlands and trade routes for the Kingdom of Thera. Radians began colonizing the region, imposing harsh taxes on surviving Theran survivors.
Aftermath
The war brought Thera down from a mighty and respected kingdom to a barely functioning tribal state. Theran culture became more traditionalist, war-like, and fearful. The Therans of Sorough and Carcossa regions assimilate to Radian culture within two generations, though, the regions do contain some unique aspects.
Historical Significance
Legacy
The war set the tone of the Radiant Empire for generations. For the Therans, this war was a sneak attack, and a way of kicking someone while they're injured—a betrayal of intention. They have never forgiven or forgotten the Radians. The Radians, for their part, think the war was quite justified, bringing true civilization to a primitive horde.
Technological Advancement
The cold-con process debuted during the tail end of the war, where they were used as shock troops before slowly replacing the entire military structure (with some exceptions).
