9.1 - Frost and Flames Report
General Summary
On Day 8 of the Flora Cycle, Year 300, I requested another investigation into the Witch of the Issen Mountains. Another child had gone missing in Isjorbe on Flora Cycle Day 6. Four volunteers from various Paritet branches and ranks stepped up to the task. Within two days, they found the entrance to a tunnel1 that lead north under the mountains. There, they found the supposed "witch" and chased her down. Regrettably, she was neutralized as otherwise the team would have been viscously tortured and killed. I have compiled all of their reports together below.
The squad chased the witch—Desna—through tunnels of ice. It seems she was stealing away another victim, but had her lackeys go ahead while she intercepted the group. The tunnel opens to a large room full of smooth sheets of ice. This ice is reflective enough to act as mirrors2. Moss used his goggles to find the "correct" sheet of ice, and they made their way out into another tunnel.
The tunnel leads to another room. The ice floor before them was fragile; stepping on it would've resulted in a quick fall into an ("obscenely deep") pit. However, across the rough ice on the other side was a small hole. The squad found as pile of smooth, flat stones. Reasoning that the hole might have some sort of trigger, they slid the stones across the ice with the aid of grease from Junaer's flask.3
They pass through another hallway and find themselves face to face with the witch in a rectangular room. To no one's surprise, the floor was covered in a layer of ice. But unlike the last room, this was was stable and slick; the stone underneath visible. The witch pushed and pulled them around on the ice as they tried to subdue her. Eventually, the surrounded her and were able to put a new invention4 to the test. ███ ███ ████████ ███ ████████ But it wasn't enough, and she exploded with her power, ██████ ███████ ███ ██████████ uncontrollable. The squad responded with their only choice in order to keep the people of Isjorbe safe. Desna was ████████neutralized on Day 10 of the Flora Cycle, Year 300.
