County of Xaintonge
Public Agenda
Like its neighbor to the North, Xaintonge is a frequent target and battleground between the forces of Per-Ys and Port de la Lune, The Écorcheurs Free Company, a mercenary brigand army, controls much of the region
History
Xaintonge has a long history as a border territory, housing a disparate collection of independent clans during the Misty Times. Refugees fleeing disaster and conflict on the Mor Kreizdouar settled the region, but these disunified groups fell to the stronger forces of Akitania, Anjev and Poitou, before Poitou itself was once again conquered by Akitania.
Territories
Xaintonge is located in Western Akitania, along a stretch of the Mor Kantbria known as the Thorncoast, a wild stretch of rocky shores and dangerous currents, beginning at Enez-Olerun, where the sheltered Flowercoast of the Lordship of Aunis stands to the North and ending at the Silvercoast, beginning at the mouth of the Garona River to the South.
The County of Xaintonge is made up of two large divisions: The County itself, stretching from the Thorncoast along the North bank of the Garona to Port De La Lune, and the landlocked Viscounty of Aulnay, located to the Northeast of Xaintonge, between Aunis, Poitou, and Lusignan, vassals of the County of Poitou to the North, and the County of Angouleme to the Southeast.
Agriculture & Industry
Xaintonge and Aulnay are famous for their grapes, primarily used in the production of distilled eaux de vie spirits.
The region is exceptionally reknowned for its ceramics andpottery, providing a large amount of the vessels used in the wine trade out of Port de la Lune. As a results, Xaintonge can be found all across Kornôgel, from The Cloth Cities to The Golden Sea.
Trade & Transport
Distilled spirits are the largest direct export of Xaintonge, while its pottery and ceramics spread indirectly through the wine trade out of the Garona River.
The Marie-Morgane of Douarnenez Bay have taken a particular liking to the cognacs and eaux de vie distilled in the region, and their ships are often singled out for raids and thefts as a result.
Mushrooms are cultivated in the limestone tunnels beneath many towns and villages in the region, including Xaintes.
