Barony of Bigouden
History
During the Reign of Gradlon Mwar, the region was an Archipelago, the Petty Kingdom of Kido. Quickly overshadowed by Ker-Ys, it served as a de-facto territory of Great Kernev. Cadfan's Tempest struck the area hard, sending debris to clog the island channels and destroy the ports. The resulting landfill connected the islands to each other and the mainland, a low-marshy plain filled with coastal ponds and wetlands.
The Church of the Four moved in during the resulting chaos, establishing the Deanery of Kab Kaval, an ecclesiastic authority over the former Kido. By the time the Barons were put into place, the ports on the Southwestern coast had grown prosperous, due to ample banks of cod and a prime location for trade, positioned along a trade route to Asturias.
Territories
The Barony of Bigouden is located in Southwestern Kernev, on the Western coast of The Armorican Peninsula. It is located to the Southeast of the Barony of Penn-Sardin and Southwest of Biskonti Glazig.
Bigouden is largely contiguous with Kab Kaval, a peninsula extending into the Mor Bras between Gwaien Bay and Bendoded Bay, at the mouth of the Odet River. It has a low, flat elevation, rising slightly in the North. The coastline along Gwaien Bay is full of ponds and marshlands, without major ports or Bediz Settlements.
Technological Level
Thatched roofs from ocean reeds
Religion
Church belltowers in the region are forbidden to have roofs, punishment for a failed rebellion.
Agriculture & Industry
Fishing is the primary industry of the region, with a focus on cod. The ports of the Benodet (Southeastern coast) are prosperous, trading in hemp, canvas, cattle and grain, establishing an important and lucrative trading network with Asturias across the Mor Kantabria.
A result of this maritime prosperity, development is largely focused along the coastlines, but a secondary industry of textiles and dyeing has sprung up, founded by and adding to the regions considerable wealth. Many of the dyes used to colour Crystalsilk come from this region.
