The First Magic Cataclysm was an apocalyptic event that destroyed the realm of Adavallir and forced the migration of the Elven kingdoms to Yaldar, the realm of mortals.

In the golden age of the elven realm of Adavallir, the elves unearthed an ancient artifact known as the Shard of Eternity, a crystalline fragment said to be a piece of the world's original creation. This artifact pulsed with untamed magical energy, and its power was revered as a gift from the gods. Over centuries, the elves of Adavallir used the shard to amplify their magic, enhancing their cities, crafting wonders, and protecting their lands with powerful enchantments.

However, the shard was never meant to be wielded by mortals.

The Catalyst

A sect of ambitious elven sorcerers sought to unlock the shard's full potential, believing they could use its energy to transcend mortality and bring Adavallir into an eternal golden age. In their arrogance, they conducted a grand ritual deep within the crystalline sanctum beneath the capital city.

As they tapped into the shard’s core essence, the artifact began to destabilize. The raw, primal magic was far more volatile than they had anticipated. Instead of unlocking its power, they ruptured its containment, causing an uncontrollable surge of energy.

The Cataclysm

The Shardstorm began with a blinding explosion that shattered the skies. Magic erupted outward in waves, splitting the land and releasing chaotic elemental forces:

  1. Crystal Spires: Massive crystalline spires erupted from the ground, skewering forests, cities, and mountains. These spires continued to grow uncontrollably, warping the landscape into a jagged, uninhabitable terrain.
  2. Temporal Distortions: The explosion fractured time itself. Portions of the realm became frozen in an eternal moment, while other areas experienced accelerated decay, crumbling into dust in seconds.
  3. Wild Magic Zones: Magic became untamed and unpredictable. Spells no longer worked as intended; even the simplest incantations could summon storms, open portals, or transform beings into horrific amalgamations.
  4. The Wailing Rift: At the epicenter of the blast, a rift to an unknown dimension opened, spewing shadowy entities and corrupting the land with a miasma of despair.

The Aftermath

The once-thriving elven civilization was reduced to scattered survivors, their cities lost to crystalline overgrowth and temporal anomalies. The forests of Adavallir were transformed into a haunted expanse, filled with whispers of the past and roaming specters of those caught in the temporal fractures.

The elves who survived blamed the sorcerers for their hubris and declared the shard an accursed relic. The survivors formed nomadic tribes, wandering the edges of their ruined homeland, seeking redemption or a way to undo the damage.

Legacy of the Shardstorm

Legends tell that fragments of the Shard of Eternity still lie buried within the ruins of Adavallir, radiating unstable magic. Adventurers and scholars occasionally venture into the crystalline wasteland in search of these fragments, hoping to harness their power or to find clues to repair the rift. However, none have returned unscathed, and the shattered realm serves as a grim reminder of the cost of wielding forces beyond mortal comprehension.
